What Bengal thinks today, the rest of the country thinks tomorrow: Mamata Banerjee

On this day last year, Mamata Banerjee took place as the chief minister of Bengal for a third consecutive term. Today, on the occasion, she addressed a party meeting at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Highlights of her speech:

The Lakshmir Bhandar scheme has been a huge success, with over five lakh people benefitting. The scheme was extended to 20 lakh more mothers and sisters today.

Things have improved hugely compared to the 34-year period of the Left Front rule. Many people were killed and their bodies buried in unknown graves. Earlier, complaints were not undertaken at police stations. Now prompt action is the norm.

Bengal is much safer than the other states. Today in UP if girls go to get justice, victims are made the accused. But here we don’t do that. I don’t even leave my own boys & girls (party workers) if they’re guilty. But there are some who keep circulating fake videos.

You have to do social work to do politics. Today I once again take oath before my mothers and sisters that until I leave, I will work for Bengal. Bengal will show the path to India.

There is no use in talking against me, of misleading and hatching a conspiracy.

I don’t care what others say about me. I care about democracy for my people. Those who celebrate Durga Puja also celebrate Eid. We celebrate all festivals together.

Don’t be scared, keep fighting: Mamata Banerjee’s Eid message from Red Road

Addressing a gathering of around 14,000 people after participating in a prayer service for Eid-ul-Fitr on Red Road on Tuesday, May 3, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured Muslims that “neither I nor my party nor my government will do anything which will make you sad”.

Describing the current situation in the country as “not fine”, she asserted that the “politics of isolation” going on in the country is not welcome.

The chief minister urged the people not to be scared but to be united for a better future.

“The situation in the country is not fine. The policy of divide and rule and politics of isolation going on in the country are not correct. We want unity. Everyone has the right to live together. We enjoy equal rights. Do not be scared and keep on fighting,” she said.

Mamata Banerjee also visited the Sholo Ana Mosque and spoke with the local people, who were quite excited to have her around. She wished everyone on the happy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

This year’s BGBS meet will generate 40 lakh jobs for the youth: Mamata Banerjee at the closing ceremony of BGBS 2022

The two-day annual Bengal Global Business Summit concluded today with a huge response from industrialists from across the globe. It saw the participation of 4,300 delegates, including over 500 international delegates spanning 42 countries.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while speaking at the closing ceremony, stated that Bengal has received investment proposals worth Rs 3,42,375 crore at this year’s summit. As many as 137 MoUs have been signed. “This year’s BGBS meet will generate 40 lakh jobs for the youth,” she said.

“Industry is our goal,” Mamata Banerjee said, adding, “Let us reach a place in 10 years where other states won’t be able to even touch us.”

The chief minister announced that next year, the summit will be held over three days instead of two—February 1, 2 and 3.

At this year’s summit, industrialist Gautam Adani announced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore over a period of 10 years, with an employment potential of 25,000.

Andal Airport and Bagdogra Airport will soon be converted into international airports. Regional airports will come up in Cooch Behar, Malda and other places to connect the districts of Bengal to the other parts of the country.

In the run-up to the summit, several portals were launched by the state government, such as the revamped Shilpa Sathi portal, export facilitation portal, state portal for online exhibitions and the Nijashwini portal for self-help groups.

Like last year, this year too, Durga Puja would be held in strict conjunction with COVID-19 protocol: Mamata Banerjee

On the occasion of Durga Puja, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today held an administrative and coordination meeting at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Highlights of her interaction:

Like last year, this year too, Durga Puja would be held in strict conjunction with COVID-19 protocol.

No new rules for this year – everyone needs to be alert.

Maintaining social distance and wearing masks would be compulsory

The clubs need to have sanitiser and masks at hand in order to distribute among visitors to their pandals.

The clubs have to constantly spread messages on COVID-19 awareness.

Immersion ceremonies would be held from October 15-17. The decision on Durga Puja Carnival would be taken later.

The decision on allowing people at night would be taken later.

The situation is better now, but we cannot afford to slack off.

A total of 36,000 clubs in the state have been registered as Durga Puja organisers, of which 2,500 are in Kolkata.

There would be 1,500 women-administered clubs organising Durga Puja.

Every club would be given Rs 50,000 towards Durga Puja expenses.

There would be 50 per cent discount on the electricity bill for every Puja committee.

We are ready to die, but would never let the country be sold to the BJP: Mamata Banerjee

On the occasion of the Foundation Day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed the youth at a virtual rally from Kalighat.

Highlights of her speech

Students are the future of the country. Delhi can’t counter us politically, that why they throw the agencies at us.

Our challenges have increased after coming to power. Trinamool can’t be stopped in its tracks by using agencies.

Student Credit Card, with loan of Rs 10 lakh against each, which can be repaid in 40 years; nine lakh smartphones for students; 40 new universities; 30,000 students recruited; more than nine crore cycles under Sabooj Sathi, with more to come;

Government employees are being given the sack in Tripura, yet so many promises were made before the elections.

Many teachers recruited in Bengal; many to be recruited at the Deocha Pachami mines; deep sea port being built in Tajpur; industrial estate at Jangalsundari in Raghunathpur; lakhs of people to get employment in the future; IT to be a big source of employment, including at data centres, already 2.10 lakh employed; new leather complex at Bantala; 68 industrial parks, Biswa Bangla Hubs have come up

Unemployment here much less than many states; it has reduced by 45 per cent.

More than six lakh unemployed youth provided training through Utkarsh Bangla Scheme, many among whom have got employment as well; training also being provided for recruitment as IAS, IPS, WBCS officers

Daughters are self-reliant today, no longer a burden on their parents. Kanyashree is our pride.

Stress should  be given on creating political awareness amongst the youth on a large scale. Teachers are our pride.

The BJP is stifling students’ voices.

Bengal will show the way. TMCP will play a big role at the national level. I would ask its members to create a network across the country.

The current BJP government is demonic, eveil; they don’t love the people, they just want to dominate using muscle power; they want to sell off the whole country.

Insurance, coal, railways are being sold off. Next they might just ask the people to sell their body parts. It is the duty of students to protest against all these.

Why should they catch only Trinamool for illegally selling coal? Coal is part of the Union government’s responsibilities. I can name at least a dozen minister who have looted Asansol. During elections, they used to board at hotels run by owners of coal-related businesses.

Many BJP leaders and ministers are involved in women’s trafficking; I have not uttered anything against them.

Let the ED send it’s notices; I would reply by sending sacks of documents as proof of our innocence

I have never seen such politics of vengeance. We don’t do such a kind of politics. I would ask the BJP: What measures have you taken against your members involved in wrongdoing? Have you sent the Human Rights Commission to Hathras in UP?

We don’t mind being investigated by the CBI. But why would they go visit villages taking a BJP leader along?

Is the Human Rights Commission only for Bengal? Why not Tripura? Our workers are being beaten up daily there.

All such commissions have been politicised. All members are part of the BJP

If they can, let them fight Abhishek politically.

I want to know, from where does PM-CARES gets its funds?

They only know how to tell lies. Thta’s why I’m appealing to everyone to get united and prepare for the big fight.

The CPI(M) and the BJP both have tried to murder us. Attempt was made on me in Nandigram.

Why are the soldiers being withdrawn from Afghanistan without evacuating all its citizens who need evecuation?

I’ve never seen such divisions among soldiers.

All election-related expenses the states have to bear.

If we say anything, we are being labelled as anti-nationals. Can the sacred land of the country ever be sold?

Bangla CM launches Matir Srishti Scheme

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today launched a new developmental scheme called Matir Srishti for the ‘Paschimanchal’ (western) districts of Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, Jhargram, Paschim Bardhaman and Paschim Medinipur.

The scheme consists of commercially exploiting the fallow land in these six districts through horticulture, fishery and animal husbandry. Those engaging in these activities would also get the benefits of other existing government benefits applicable to such activities. These would lead to additional generation of income, which would be of great help to farmers in dry regions.

Matir Srishti envisages making 50,000 acres of fallow land commercially useful and through it, bringing benefits to about 2.5 lakh people. The lead administrator of the scheme would be the Water Resources Investigation & Development Department.

Other features of the scheme:

Fallow plots of 10 to 20 acres belonging to farmers can be utilised for the scheme
Fallow land belonging to the State Government would also be utilised for the purpose
Micro-irrigation schemes would be set up separately for each plot of land
Only members of farmers’ cooperative societies and self-help groups (SHG) would be able to participate
Sale of the products farmed would also be conducted by the farmers’ cooperative societies

Saugata Roy speaks on the Delhi genocide

Namaskar Sir, thank you.

I rise to speak on the Delhi genocide. I am not speaking in a happy frame of mind because the Delhi genocide happened 72 years after Gandhi ji was murdered in the same city by a Hindu fanatic. Gandhi ji has been murdered again in Delhi by you know who, Sir.

Sir, I was listening to one of the Honourable Members. Her speech, if made outside, could be termed as a hate speech. I have seldom heard such a biased, communal speech. I do not know whether this should go up in the House records. The Member was forthright in her defence of a man who went to Maujpur with 300 people and started the riots. She spent five minutes defending the most hated man so may I quote Shakespeare and call her ‘the devil’s advocate’. She is the best devil’s advocate possible. She has also been an advocate for Delhi Police, which has shown total inaction and ineptitude in this whole riot in Delhi. Unfortunately, there are not many takers for Meenakshi ji’s speech.

Sir, this is what our leader Mamata Banerjee has said, that the Delhi riots were “a planned genocide”. So I must explain why she described it as such. She called it “a planned genocide” because there was gradual build-up to the hatred that led to the riots. First, there was the action taken in JNU against the students. Then, the police went to the Jamia Millia Islamia University and beat up students inside the library. Then, one after another, in the run-up to the Delhi election, one person said, “Goli maro”, and used some other words. Then another said, regarding the Shaheen Bagh protesters, that people will go and do all sorts of things to them. Then the Honourable Home Minister said, “Aap itna zor button dabao ki Shaheen Bagh mein current lage”. Lekin unka baat koi nahi suna, party haar gaya, woh toh dusri baat hain. But he did say, “Itna zor button dabao ki Shaheen Bagh mein current lage”. The hate was being built up, and then this man Kapil Mishra openly said that if the road was not cleared, he shall go with 300 people to clear it up.

Then what happened, Sir? I’m not counting Hindus and Muslims, because I quote John Donne, who said: “any man’s death diminishes me,/ because I am involved in mankind./ And therefore never send to know for whom/ the bell tolls; it tolls for thee”. This was quoted by Ernest Hemingway in his famous novel, For Whom the Bell Tolls. Sir, I am not counting though I know that out of the 53 people killed, there were two policemen, and 11 belonged to the majority community and 40 to the minority community. I am not naming any community but it’s obvious that the minority community suffered more. And what’s more, thousands of people have fled from the affected areas and gone to their villages in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, or are living with relatives elsewhere in Delhi.

In this city of Delhi, areas like Maujpur, Chand Bagh and Jamuna Vihar were wholly affected. The other areas wholly affected, if I may mention, were Jaffrabad, Seelampur, Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Khajuri Khas, Karawal Nagar, Bhajanpura, Maujpur and Shivpuri. For three days, there was a naked dance of communalism in the streets of Delhi. How did it start? On the 23rd, Kapil Mishra came with a pro-CAA procession and there was a meeting in Jaffrabad. First, a clash took place between pro-CAA and anti-CAA protestors. Women have been sitting at Shaheen Bagh since December 14 but there was no violence. However, BJP leaders kept instigating them, saying “Yeh Shaheen Bagh, yeh deshdrohi hai, isko goli maro, ura do”, aur yeh ghrina charo taraf failne laga. Yahan Meenakshi Lekhi ka jo speech tha, waisa hi sab speech log bahar mein de rahe the

On the 23rd and 24th, the actual rioting started. I was looking for our Honourable Home Minister, and I saw him sitting in a front row sitting in the front row at Motera Stadium welcoming Mr Trump. When he should have been in the police control room he was welcoming Mr trump at Motera. On the 24th, which was a Monday, Mr Trump came to Ahmedabad and then he undertook a romantic visit to Agra, and our Home Minister attended Motera and came back to Delhi, but there was no order for the police. On that day, five people were killed including one head constable Ratan Lal. The violence was escalating, but still there was no clear instruction from the Honourable Home Minister. He was busy at Trump’s meeting. Then on the 25th things went out of control. Armed mobs fought with each other on the streets of Delhi. As the Honourable Member referred to earlier said, Molotov cocktails, stones, bombs and other things were thrown, and ultimately the death toll has gone up to 53. The Honourable Home Minister then had a meeting with the Chief MInister of Delhi and others on the 25th – mind you, not on the 24th when the riots started. He had the meeting on the 25th. And only on the evening of the 25th were the first orders given for imposition of Section 144 and for shoot-at-sight. Still, the violence went on throughout the night of 25th. Only on the 26th did peace return. The police had taken some action. The useless commissioner of Delhi was removed and a new man was brought in.

Now it has been questioned as to why did the NSA visit these affected areas on the 26th? What was the Home Minister doing? The NSA is supposed to keep track of the threats to the country. But he is going to Kashmir, he is going here and there. Is it his business to control the internal law and order situation? Why was the Home Minister absent from action? There was no explanation for the same.

When Ajit Doval went, he said, “Jo ho gaya so ho gaya, now there will be peace”. Uske baad se mera ek kavita yaad aya — “Panchi jo udti hai chaman badal giya/.Haste hai sitare gagan badal giya”. Aj shanti, khamoshi bata rahi hai laash wohi hai sirf kafan badal gaya. Kafan badal gaya kyun ki Ahmedabad wapas aya. Sir, Naroda Patia wapas aya; we haven’t forgotten. But the now Honourable Prime Minister said in 2002, “To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”, quoting Isaac Newton.

At this stage, I feel bad standing face-to-face with the Honourable Home Minister. You are still young, you have a good future if you accept responsibility for your failure to control Delhi riots, if you acknowledge your responsibility for failing to bring peace within three days. You were busy with Trump, so you could not do it. Acknowledge the responsibility in the name of god and go, don’t sit in the Home Minister’s position. If you go now, maybe you  will recover, otherwise you will have to lead the rest of your life with the stamp on your forehead that this is the man who could not prevent the riots in Delhi, just 10 km from the Home Ministry’s headquarters. If you could not control Delhi, how would you control this huge country?

Sir, I demand a judicial enquiry into the riots by a sitting Supreme Court judge, not a retired judge. I demand total rehabilitation for all those affected by the riots, and lastly, with all politeness at my disposal, I ask the Honourable Home MInister, in the name of god, to go.

Banglashree and Karma Sathi to further promote the MSME sector

The 2020 Bangla Budget has opened up new avenues for employment for the youth. This has been done primarily through the introduction of two schemes – Banglashree and Karma Sathi. While the former focusses on creation of more micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), the latter aims on providing soft loans to the unemployed.

In recent times, when the country as a whole is reeling in an economic crisis and has seen a 45-year-rise in unemployment due to the negative policies of the NDA Government, Bangla has seen a 40 per cent dip in unemployment as a result of the pro-people policies of the Maa-Mati-Manush Government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Efforts to further bolster the State’s employment scenario have been undertaken through the policies adopted in this year’s State Budget.

MSMEs on the upswing

The State Government has put special focus on the development of the MSME, as it provides maximum employment. In fact, based on the latest National Sample Survey (NSS) report, which says the State currently has 88.67 lakh MSME establishments, the Central Government has acknowledged that Bangla is number one in the MSME sector in the country. During the last eight years, the number of MSME clusters in operation has grown from 49 to 539.

The infrastructure for small industries has also seen tremendous growth. At present, 52 MSME Parks are operating, and 39 more such parks are under construction. The Budget has allocated Rs 200 crore for establishing another 100 MSME Parks in the next three years.

Banglashree

With these statistics in mind, the government has introduced a new incentive-based scheme for establishing more MSMEs, named ‘Banglashree’, which will come into force from April 1, 2020.

The MSMEs which started operating from April 1, 2019 will also be eligible for this scheme. Through this scheme, more and more MSMEs will be established and huge employment will be generated. Rs 100 crore has been allocated for Banglashree for the financial year 2020-21.

Karma Sathi

With the objective of giving further impetus to the MSME sector, another scheme is being introduced from the next financial year, named Karma Sathi. It intends to make unemployed youth self-reliant. Under this scheme, every year for the next three years, one lakh unemployed youth will be provided soft loans and subsidies amounting to upto Rs 2 lakh per person for taking up new income-generating projects.

The loans will be provided by State owned cooperative banks. This assistance will enable them to take up small manufacturing or trading activities and through these, help them become self-reliant. Rs 500 crore has been allocated for Karma Sathi for the financial year 2020-21.

Bangla to observe Khadya Sathi Dibas today

January 27 is celebrated as Khadya Sathi Dibas by the Bangla Government. On this day in 2016, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the Khadya Sathi Scheme, hence the commemoration.

Khadya Sathi Scheme is a flagship scheme of the Bangla Government. Nearly 90 per cent of the State’s population, get foodgrains at Rs 2 per kg under this scheme. There are special packages for the Jangalmahal region, Cyclone Aila-affected families, farmers of Singur, workers and non-workers of closed tea gardens, Hill areas, and the Toto tribe (staying in Totopara).

The scheme is implemented through a strong network of public distribution and food storage system.

Govt to provide trauma care ambulances to municipalities

The State Transport Department will start providing, in a phase-wise manner, trauma care ambulances to various municipalities and administrative officials from various districts.

The ambulances would be distributed among the beneficiaries at a programme on January 22. The municipalities that will receive trauma care ambulances in the first phase are Murshidabad, Dhuliyan, Kharagpur and Kaliaganj, along with the district magistrate of Jhargram and a few clubs.

Each ambulance will have a doctor, nurses and paramedical staff. The maintenance and repair of the ambulances would be the responsibility of those using them.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has laid enormous stress on the issue of road safety. Her brainchild, the ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ project, is a success that has been recognised at the national level. She has also instructed the police and district administration to identify the black spots along national and State highways and take preventive measures to check accidents.
