Step by step to change

Kolkata , Feb 20: Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today invited both Congress and SUCI to forge an alliance for the forthcoming assembly elections. She said they would strive for a grand alliance of people. She was speaking at a party rally at Mayo Road. “Within 10 to 12 days, the poll panel is expected to announce the poll dates,” she said. “My fight is against the Left and not the Leftist people. Those who want to protest the misrule are welcome,” she said. She, however, made her displeasure known about price rise. Blaming the state, she said they levy the maximum tax. Ms Banerjee also mentioned that she wants to invite Justice Rajindar Sachar, whose report on the plight of Muslims dealt a staggering blow to the Left, to Bengal and seek his advice to improve the condition of the 28 per cent minority population in the state if she comes to power. “We will invite him (Justice Sachar) to Bengal. We will ask him to suggest steps for improving the condition of Muslims,” she told the huge gathering that included villagers from North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore — three districts that have a sizeable Muslim population. “What has the government done for the Muslims? Nothing. They are showing on TV advertisements made by their supporters. For one OBC certificate, a candidate has to stand in queues. We will be by their side when we come to power,” Ms Banerjee said, drawing loud cheers from her supporters. The salient points within her speech today:- Trinamool is still not in power—then why the left front is so angry? If we get the chance to work, we will make this a ‘sonar bangla’. There have been no justices done in the last 34 years for the various genocides committed by armed CPM goons. After the change, every such incident from Snaibari to Netai would be properly investigated. The illegally detained political prisoners would be freed. The administration would be cleaned of unwanted elements. The police forces would be free of political interference.
