Election Commission directs state police to investigate against six police officers

Suri, 21 Feb: The Election Commission has directed the state police to start investigation on the roles of six police officers on the ground that they are close to the ruling party in the state and misuse their office while doing their duties. In the list are two CIs and six OCs. The CIS of Nanoor and Bolpur—Uday Bandopadhyaya and Abdul Azim and the OCs of Ilambazar, Parui, Dubrajpur and Labhpur—Arnab Guha, Somnath Bandopdhyaya, Kartik Mohan Ghosh and Subir Bag respectively have been reported against. The Election Commission observers and officers have reported against them two days back. As a matter of fact, Trinamool Congress district head Anubrata Mondal submitted a memorandum stating the political closeness of the accused officers, last December. The previous district Police Superintendent, Humayun Kabir, reportedly did not do anything after receiving the memorandum. Therefore, the Election Commission observers show-caused him after their visits to the respective places. When Nishat Pervej took charge as the Police Superintendent, he was directed by the observers to look into the report submitted by the Trinamool Congress. According to Mr. Mondal, these six acted more as representatives of the ruling party than impartial police officers. They always implicated Trinamool workers and charged them with false cases.
