Organic farming training for correctional home inmates
The State Technical Education, Training and Skill Development Department will impart training on organic farming to the inmates of Midnapore Central Correctional Home (MCCH). The department is going forward with the project in collaboration with the Correctional Administration Department, which administers the correctional homes.
This was announced recently by the Technical Education Minister. This training programme is another of the State Government’s laudatory efforts to make the inmates’ integration into society easier by making them realise their worth through the acquisition of a skill.
It may be mentioned that the Technical Education Department has already provided training to inmates of three correctional homes in Kolkata.
Thirty-eight inmates of Dum Dum Central Correctional Home have received training through their ‘Electrician & Wireman’ course. Forty inmates of Alipore Women’s Correctional Home have been trained in domestic work and cooking (involves the usage of microwave ovens, induction cookers and other modern equipment). Thirty-seven inmates of Alipore Central Correctional Home have undergone training in plumbing and masonry.
The Correctional Administration Department is also planning courses on elderly care and child care for inmates.
