Bengal MSME Dept to ensure commercial success of ‘Joyee’ footballs
The Refugee Handicrafts division of the State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department has been doing exemplary work by engaging women from rural regions in manufacturing football, thus also reviving the football manufacturing industry in Bengal.
Now, the MSME Department is taking things further by adopting ways to ensure the commercial success of these footballs, named ‘Joyee’ (meaning ‘winner’) by none other than Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
A decision has been taken to make the footballs available at least at one point in every district. The footballs will be sold from these outlets and the government might also go for tie-ups with some major shops in each district.
People have become well aware of the football brand after the balls were distributed by the State Government among local clubs ahead of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup last October and earlier, among several Durga Puja organisers across the state. So, it will not take much time in becoming commercially successful.
It may be mentioned that the Refugee Handicrafts division was set up in 1950 to help refugees earn their livelihood. But it had lost its significance due to the lackadaisical attitude during the 34-year Left Front rule.
After the change of guard in the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took initiative and set up the Refugee Handicrafts Managing Committee comprising veteran football players. Training has been provided to women from rural parts of the state in making footballs.

‘জয়ী’ ফুটবল বিপণনের উদ্যোগ রাজ্যের
রাজ্যের ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প দপ্তরের ‘উদ্বাস্তু হস্তশিল্প বিভাগ’ গ্রামাঞ্চলের মহিলাদের দিয়ে ফুটবল তৈরী করিয়ে ইতিমধ্যেই নজির গড়েছে। গ্রামীণ মহিলাদের ফুটবল তৈরী করতে দেওয়া হয়েছে প্রশিক্ষন। এর ফলে রাজ্যে ফুটবল তৈরীর শিল্পও পেয়েছে নতুন জীবন।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী এই ফুটবলের নাম রেখেছেন ‘জয়ী’। ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প দপ্তর এখন এই ফুটবল বিপণনের জন্য উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে।
সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে রাজ্যের প্রতিটি জেলায় অন্তত একটি করে কেন্দ্র থাকবে যেখানে এই ফুটবল পাওয়া যাবে। পাশাপাশি, খেলার সরঞ্জাম বিক্রয়কারী কিছু বড় সংস্থার সাথে চুক্তি করার পরিকল্পনাও রয়েছে।
গত বছর অনূর্ধ্ব ১৭ বিশ্বকাপ ফুটবল প্রতিযোগিতার সময় রাজ্যজুড়ে ক্লাব ও স্কুলগুলিতে এই ফুটবল বিতরণ করে রাজ্য সরকার। তখন থেকেই সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে এই ফুটবলের ব্যাপারে বিশেষ আগ্রহ জন্মেছে।
প্রসঙ্গত, উদ্বাস্তু হস্তশিল্প বিভাগ তৈরী হয় ১৯৫০ সালে যাতে তারা নিজেদের জীবিকা নির্বাহ করতে পারেন। কিন্তু, ৩৪ বছরের বাম সরকারের ঔদাসিন্যে এই দপ্তর প্রায় বিস্মৃতির পথে চলে গেছিল।
২০১১ সালে পালাবদল হওয়ার পর, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় রিফিউজি হ্যান্ডিক্রাফট ম্যানেজিং কমিটি তৈরী করেন প্রাক্তন ফুটবলারদের নিয়ে।
