Abir Biswas makes a Special Mention on Indo-Bangladesh crossover point in Gede

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, I speak in demand of improvement of facilities in Indo-Bangladesh crossover point at Gede, West Bengal and the concerned railway station.

The Indo-Bangladesh crossover point at Gede, West Bengal is plagued by numerous problems. It begins with the BSF registration; there are long queues of several hundred metres but there is no shade to save the people from the scorching Sun or torrential rains. Neither are there any public amenities nor are there seating arrangements for the old and infirm.

There is insufficient female staff to handle ladies and at times even the male BSF personnel unfortunately check the female being option less. People are detained for hours together for no reasons at all. Registration is done twice, first unofficially by the BSF, in this case who has no locus standi, and then by those in charge of immigration check post. Even then double checking is done only at this place and nowhere else.

The Customs and Immigration checkpoint at Gede Railway Station beside Platform Number 1 has some inconveniences with no seating arrangements, which existed till recently but are missing currently. It lacks drinking water facility except one tap and sanitary provisions except one toilet which invariably remains locked causing great inconvenience.

Approximately 3,000 persons crossover daily and facilities are proving to be very insufficient. But more importantly at the very onset it brings a very sorry picture in the minds of foreign nationals. The Hon’ble Ministers of Home Affairs and Railways may please act accordingly to ensure convenience and relief and also provide the requisite amenities as expected in a venue of national importance for saving the image of our motherland.

Thank you.
