Mitali Bag’s speech on The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026 and The Delimitation Bill, 2026

Namaskar, Sir. Thank you for allowing me to speak. Today in this House, many things have been discussed since morning regarding women’s power and empowerment. We are ashamed and astonished by the fact that in BJP-ruled states, women are being tortured, yet here they are saying great things about women’s empowerment. We will not forget what happened in Hathras and Manipur. Therefore, talking about women’s empowerment does not suit them. I am proud because my CM is Mamata Banerjee. Eleven women MPs have been sent to this Parliament by her. Out of those 11 MPs, three belong to the SC category. I, too, belong to the SC women category. This has become possible only because of Mamata Banerjee. On the other hand, the BJP is hostile towards different races and tribes. The BJP is inherently misogynistic. A few minutes ago, one of our colleagues spoke about Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Durga, Goddess Saraswati, and Maa Kali. They chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ everywhere but have completely forgotten Maa Sita. This is the greatest shame in this Parliament House. The talk of women’s power does not suit them. One more thing I would add here: ‘No matter how many attacks you make, Bengal will win again.’ Smt. Mamata Banerjee will win again and continue to work for the women of Bengal. Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to speak.
