Trinamool MPs meet Union Finance Minister over debt restructuring
All India Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party Members today met the Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram at New Delhi. After an hour long meeting with the Finance Minister the Trinamool Parliamentary Party Members staged a rally as well.

Sudip Bandopadhyay, Leader of the Party in Lok Sabha said, “ we had requested the Centre to grant us a moratorium period for the debt repayment many times in the past. Today we reiterated our request for restructuring the repayment of the dedt amount. It is a known fact that the CPM, which ruled Bengal for 34 years, had robbed the State of its wealth. The current Government has to bear the burden of the debt incurred by the CPM government. We have not demanded a complete waiver, but just a restructuring.
The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee is facing immense difficulties to run the State`s administration under such tied down circumstances; yet she is managing well, thanks to her leadership qualities.

Our request this time was very serious, supported with facts and figures. We want some financial package for the State; it is our right. The Union Finance Minister has assured us that he will place our concern before the Prime Minister. He has also mentioned that the Raghuram Rajan Committee Report has not yet been accepted, it was just available on the internet.

Besides placing the demands for our own State we have also spoken on behalf of other States that are financially deprived by the Center. If the Center does not take swift action for our interest we will be forced to launch protest rallies. “
