Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mondal’s Zero Hour mention on the demand to stop the increasing exploitation of bank employees by implementing a five-day work week, as approved by the Indian Banks’ Association

Thank you, Madam. I would like to draw the attention of this House regarding the increasing exploitation of bank employees in the country. The bank employees are burdened with excessive work load, extended hours of work, and mounting pressure to meet unachievable targets. Bank personnel have tirelessly served the nation even during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indian Banks Association has already approved the implementation of a five-day banking week. Yet, the Government has taken no steps to enforce it despite bodies like RBI, insurance companies, and other Government organizations following five-day work week. So, it is only fair that their demand for better working conditions is met, which is a demand on humanitarian grounds. I would urge the Finance Minister to take immediate action and implement the five-day banking week without further delay. Thank you, Madam.
