Leopard safari to start at Bengal Safari before Poila Boishakh
The North Bengal Wild Animals Park, popularly known as Bengal Safari Park, will soon add another feather to its cap: a leopard safari.
It will start from April, possibly before Poila Boishakh, or the start of the Bengali New Year, on April 15.
This will be the fifth safari at the wildlife park – the others being herbivore safari (rhino, deer and sambar), elephant safari, tiger safari and Himalayan black bear safari. Tourists are taken around in air-conditioned buses. The huge park also has seven each of aviaries trails and small cats trails, reptile (crocodiles and gharial) ponds and a biodiversity park.
According to the State Forest Officer, the safari will be introduced with two leopards. He said that the development of infrastructure for the safari is complete. The safari will cover an area of 20 hectares. The park is located about 11 kilometres from the heart of Siliguri off NH 31, after crossing the Salugara market.
This State Government project was an idea of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to popularise wildlife tourism in north Bengal.
শিলিগুড়ির নতুন আকর্ষণ লেপার্ড সাফারি
গরমের ছুটির আগেই শিলিগুড়ির বেঙ্গল সাফারিতে আসছে চিতাবাঘ৷ পয়লা বৈশাখের আগে সেখানে লেপার্ড সাফারি চালু করার নির্দেশ দিয়েছে বন দন্তর৷
প্রায় ২০ একর জমিতে তৈরি হচ্ছে চিতাবাঘের আবাস৷ পর্যটকরা গাড়িতে চড়ে ওই এলাকার ভিতর ঢুকে চিতাবাঘ দেখবেন৷ বেঙ্গল সাফারিতে এখন রয়্যাল বেঙ্গল টাইগার, হরিণ, হিমালয়ান ব্ল্যাক বিয়ার সাফারি চালু আছে৷ যা পর্যটক আকর্ষণে সফলও হয়েছে৷ লেপার্ড সাফারি চালু হলে পর্যটকদের ভিড় আরও বাড়বে বলে আশা করছেন বনকর্তারা৷
বেঙ্গল সাফারি কর্তৃপক্ষকে প্রাথমিক ভাবে দু’টি লেপার্ড ছেড়ে সাফারি চালু করতে বলা হয়েছে৷ ২০১৮ -এর ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে বেঙ্গল সাফারির কাজ সম্পূর্ণ করার পরিকল্পনা ছিল৷ সেখানে এপ্রিলেই কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয়ে যাবে৷
বৈকুণ্ঠপুর বনাঞ্চলের প্রায় আড়াইশো হেক্টর জঙ্গল ঘিরে চিড়িয়াখানাটি তৈরি করা হয়েছে৷ এখানে হরিণ, রয়্যাল বেঙ্গল টাইগার, ভালুক জঙ্গলের পরিবেশে ঘুরে বেড়ায়৷ গাড়িতে চড়ে বন্যপ্রাণীদের দেখতে পান পর্যটকরা৷
চলতি আর্থিক বছরে বেঙ্গল সাফারিতে প্রায় তিন লক্ষ মানুষ এসেছিলেন৷ বনাঞ্চলগুলিকে কী কী ধরনের বন্যপ্রাণী রয়েছে, তা খতিয়ে দেখতে সমস্ত সংরক্ষিত জঙ্গলে ক্যামেরা লাগানোর ব্যবস্থা হচ্ছে বলে বনমন্ত্রী জানিয়েছেন৷
