Health education infrastructure receives impetus under Trinamool
The Health and Family Welfare Department of Bengal, under the minister-ship of the Chief Minister herself, has brought about a lot of improvement in the state of health education in the state.
Achievements
Medical education seats (undergraduate courses): Combined MBBS and BDS seats have increased from 2,205 to 3,750.
Medical education seats (postgraduate courses): Postgraduate medical seats (MD course) have increased from 880 to 1,297.
Higher specialisation courses: Eighty students are pursuing higher specialisation courses for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) degree. Postdoctoral seats have increased to 147 from 107 in 2011.
Tutor-demonstrator appointments: In 2017, 93 tutor-demonstrators were appointed by the department, bringing the total number of such appointments since 2012 to 2,095.
Dental appointments: As part of West Bengal Dental Education Service (WBDES), 72 clinical tutors have been recruited.
Nursing education – foreign partnerships: The Bengal Government has set up partnerships with the UK Government with regard to nursing skilling and re-skilling. Two have been signed between WBIPH Knowledge Partnership between Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER), Kolkata and The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and between Health and Family Department and The Health Education England (HEE). Another one, where Bengal is a beneficiary and HEE is a partner, involves the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry and United Kingdom-India Education Research Institute (UKIERI).
Nursing education – courses: Rs 56.58 crore was allotted for financial year 2017-18 for the development of nursing education. During FY 2017-18, 52 students were admitted to M Sc (Nursing), 444 to B Sc (Nursing) and 2,175 to General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course. Five new GNM courses were started on September 22, 2017, with 60 seats in each, at the Jhargram and Basirhat District Hospitals, Ghatal and Jangipur Subdivisional Hospitals, and College of Medicine & Sagore Dutta Hospital. The total number of GNM seats has been increased from 1,215 to 2,175.

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর তত্ত্বাবধানে রাজ্য সরকারের স্বাস্থ্য এবং পরিবার কল্যাণ দপ্তর গত ছয় বছরে রাজ্যের স্বাস্থ্য শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থায় এনেছে বিপুল সংস্কার।
সাফল্যঃ
স্নাতক স্তরে চিকিৎসা শিক্ষায় আসন –এমবিবিএস ও বিডিএস পাঠ্যক্রমে আসন ২২০৫ থেকে বেড়ে ৩৭৫০ হয়েছে।
স্নাতকোত্তর স্তরে চিকিৎসা শিক্ষায় আসন –এমডি পাঠ্যক্রমে আসন সংখ্যা ৮৮০ থেকে বেড়ে ১২৯৭ হয়েছে।
উচ্চ বিশেষজ্ঞ পাঠ্যক্রম –আশি জন ছাত্র উচ্চ বিশেষজ্ঞ পাঠ্যক্রমে ডিপ্লোম্যাট অফ ন্যাশানাল বোর্ড ডিগ্রী করছে। পোস্টডক্টরাল পাঠ্যক্রমে আসন সংখ্যা ২০১১ তে ছিল ১০৭, যা বেড়ে হয়েছে ১৪৭।
টিউটর-ডিমন্সট্রেটর নিয়োগ –২০১৭ সালে ৯৩জন টিউটর-ডিমন্সট্রেটর নিয়োগ করা হয়েছে, ২০১২ থেকে এই নিয়োগের পরিমান ২০৯৫।
দন্ত চিকিৎসায় নিয়োগ –ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল ডেন্টাল এডুকেশন সার্ভিস-এর অংশ হিসেবে ৭২জন ক্লিনিকাল টিউটর নিয়োগ করা হয়েছে।
নার্সিং শিক্ষা –দক্ষতা উন্নয়নের জন্য রাজ্য সরকার ইউকে সরকারের সঙ্গে হাত মিলিয়েছে। দুটি চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছে ডব্লিউবিআইপিএইচ এর সঙ্গে ইন্সটিটিউট অফ পোস্ট গ্র্যাজুয়েট মেডিক্যাল এডুকেশন অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ, কলকাতা এবং লন্ডন স্কুল অফ হাইজিন অ্যান্ড ট্রপিক্যাল মেডিসিন। এবং স্বাস্থ্য এবং পরিবার কল্যাণ দপ্তরের সঙ্গে হেলথ এডুকেশন ইংল্যান্ড। অন্য আরেকটি চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয় হেলথ এডুকেশন ইংল্যান্ডের সঙ্গে যেখানে উপকৃত হবে বাংলা।
নার্সিং পাঠ্যক্রম –২০১৭-১৮ অর্থবর্ষে ৫৬.৫৮ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ হয়েছে নার্সিং পাঠ্যক্রমের উন্নয়নে। ২০১৭-১৮ সালে ৫২ জন স্নাতকোত্তর স্তরে, ৪৪৪ জন স্নাতক স্তরে, ২১৭৫ জন জেনারেল নার্সিং অ্যান্ড মিডওয়াইফারি পাঠ্যক্রমে ভর্তি হয়েছে।
২০১৭ সালের ২২ সেপ্টেম্বর পাঁচটি নতুন জেনারেল নার্সিং অ্যান্ড মিডওয়াইফারি পাঠ্যক্রম চালু হয়েছে। প্রতিটিতে ৬০ জন ভর্তি হয়েছে। এই পাঠ্যক্রমগুলি চালু হয়েছে ঝাড়গ্রাম ও বসিরহাট জেলা হাসপাতাল, ঘাটাল ও জঙ্গিপুর মহকুমা হাসপাতাল এবং কলেজ অফ মেডিসিন অ্যান্ড সাগর দত্ত হাসপাতালে। মোট জেনারেল নার্সিং অ্যান্ড মিডওয়াইফারি পাঠ্যক্রমে আসন সংখ্যা ১২১৫ থেকে বাড়িয়ে ২১৭৫ করা হয়েছে।
