Bengal will achieve 100% rural electrification by December, 2014

West Bengal Power Minister Mr Manish Gupta has announced that all villages in the state will be electrified by the December of 2014.
Incidentally, the earlier Government completed only 30% of the work, although they began electrification drive in 1985. After coming to power the Trinamool Government has already completed 70% of the total village electrification project. It is expected that by March 2014, 80% of the villages will have power while by December 2014, 100% of the work will be completed.
The Minister also informed that Rs. 103 Cr has been allotted for electrification of the Hills. In Maldah, 9638 families belonging to BPL category have been supplied with electricity connections, he added.
Work is going on in full swing in Comprehensive Rural Electrification programme in 11 Backward Districts to cover all categories of consumers. As reported by us earlier, Howrah district will be receiving 100% electrification by the end of December 2013. In a major initiative taken up by the State Government, the State Electricity agency DSL has been entrusted with this job. Around 8000 families are yet to receive electric supply in Howrah, mostly in rural areas.
