Beautification of Kolkata – An example worth emulating for rest of India
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee has always stressed on the need of beautification and conservation of our surroundings along with cleanliness. After getting elected in the Kolkata Municipal Elections around 5 years ago, the Trinamool Congress has been working towards this goal relentlessly.
Some of the initiatives taken by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the recent years are as follows:
Kolkata Riverfront Beautification – The 2.1 KM stretch from Princep Ghat to Babu Ghat has been aesthetically beautified in an eco friendly manner. The project was completed at a cost of Rs 32 crore and has become cynosure of Kolkata and is being talked about by one and all.
Expansion and Upgradation of Nimtala Crematorium – Eight Electric Furnaces have been fitted with Anti Pollution devices. The memorials of Sri Sri Ramakrisha Paramhamsa and Rabindranath Tagore have also been given aesthetic decoration. The project was done in a cost of around Rs 22.5 crore.
Guard Rails and Road Dividers – To ensure citizen safety, mobility and enhanced beauty, Guard Rails and Road Dividers have been erected all around the city. With Lal Dighi as its epicentre the heritage site of BBD Bagh region has been beautified keeping tourism in mind at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
Modern Abattoir at Tangra – Keeping hygiene and health of the citizens of Kolkata and its adjoining areas in mind, the abattoir at Tangra has been upgraded and modernised.
Kids’ Pool and Practice Pool in Deshbandhu Park – These pools in Deshbandhu Park in North Kolkata along with beautification projects were done at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore, benefitting the children of the area.
Bhukailsah Ground – High fencing, extensive greening and grass planting has been undertaken as beautification drive of the Khidderpore – Garden Reach area.
Uttam Mancha and Sarat Sadan – Two sterling landmarks have been rejuvenated and modernised at the cost around Rs 12 crore.
For daily conservancy work, people have been deployed under the scheme of 100 Day Work Scheme to keep the city clean and green. 10 Hydraulic Ladders have been procured for scientific cutting and trimming of trees.
