Chief minister meets the families of those killed in Sitalkuchi

As soon as the Election Commission’s restrictions on campaigning were lifted in Sitalkuchi, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today morning went to meet the families of those killed in the firing incident. Reckless firing by CISF personnel had led to the deaths of five people who were standing in queue to vote.

She promised help for the families as well as an investigation to catch the perpetrators of this heinous act. She also said a martyrs’ memorial would be constructed to remember the victims by. She even picked up and cuddled the newly-born child of Manirul Haque’s wife.

She also met the uncle and grandfather of Ananda Barman, the 18-year-old first-time voter who was killed in a separate incident of violence, and severely condemned the act.

She assured everyone that after the elections were over, the government would set up an investigation to bring the culprits to justice. Mamata Banerjee also promised to visit Sitalkuchi again after the elections were done with.
