We have to ensure the wheels of development keep moving forward in Bengal : Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today published the party’s manifesto for the assembly elections. She vowed to keep working for the betterment of the people of Bengal. Among other things, she announced that, if voted to power, the Trinamool Congress government would introduce a scheme for doorstep delivery of ration.

Highlights of the press conference:

We have to ensure the development of Bengal never stops.

New facility under Khadya Sathi—free doorstep delivery of monthly ration to 1.5 crore households.

For the youth, we will create five lakh new jobs every year and thus, definitely reduce the unemployment rate.

Duare Sarkar and Paray Samadhan camps to be held twice a year.

A new scheme would be started to ensure monthly basic income support for female heads of 1.6 crore households of Bengal–Rs 500 per month to families in the general category (yearly Rs 6,000) and Rs 1,000 to families in the SC and ST categories (yearly Rs 12,000).

The estimated budget expenditure of Bengal has increased more than 3.5 times, from Rs 84,804 crore in 2010-11 to Rs 2.99 lakh crore in 2021-22.

The average per person income has more than doubled, from Rs 51,543 in 2010 to Rs 1,09,491 in 2019.

1.75 crore man-days have been created.

Farmers being an integral part of our society, their welfare and quality of life is crucial for us. Hence, we are going to provide Rs 10,000 per acre per annum to all small and marginal farmers through the Krishak
Bandhu scheme.

Another 25 lakh low-cost houses to be built under Bangla Awas Yojana in rural areas.

Each block to have at least one Model Residential School.

Bengal is the number one state in the country in terms of performance under the 100 Days’ Work Scheme.

We want to take everyone along with us in our journey towards a better Bengal. We don’t want any divisive forces to rear their heads.

Widows would be given a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 from May 2021.

Since coming to power in 2011, we have worked more than 100 per cent.

For the holistic development and uplift of the people of the Terai-Dooars region, we will set up a special development board which will have proportional representation from all communities of the area.

A special task force will be set up to examine and propose OBC status to all the communities who are not currently recognised as OBCs, like the Mahisyas, Tilis, Tamuls and Sahas, but were part of the recommended list of OBC communities by the Mandal Commission.

To enable higher education for all eligible students, a new Student Credit Card scheme will be introduced. This credit card will have a credit limit of Rs 10 lakh with an interest rate of only 4 per cent, with a provision of easy repayment so that they do not have to depend upon their parents.

A lot of jobs were lost across the country, but in Bengal, unemployment has decreased appreciably.

The BJP is making unsubstantiated remarks. But we would fight politically. Wherever I have gone, I’ve seen the people of Bengal come out in our support. Let there be free and fair elections.
