Textbooks are given for free – all books for students from classes I to VIII, four for classes IX and X and two for classes XI and XII. Almost 9.5 crore of 296 textbooks are printed for distribution.
Textbooks in Braille are supplied to visually impaired students.
From last year, all government school students from classes I to IV get school shoes for free; 50.32 lakh pairs have been distributed till now.
School uniforms are supplied for free to all students from classes I t VIII in all government-run and government-aided schools.
Under the Anandadhara Scheme, the government has supplied 990 primary schools with recreational infrastructure like swings, toys and other playthings.
A decision has already been made to supply for free school bags to students till class VIII, at a cost of Rs 300 crore.
From this year, the government will supply free notebooks to all students from classes VI to XII – numbering three to five per year – studying in State Government schools. The scheme was inaugurated by Mamata Banerjee on September 5. The cover of these notebooks would have the Biswa Bangla logo. The last few pages of each notebook would contain information about some of the most successful schemes like Kanyashree, Sabuj Sathi, Shikshashree, Yuvashree and others.
Mid-Day Meals
All students till class VIII have been included in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, through which 1.2 crore elementary level students are provided nutritious meals on a daily basis involving self help groups.
Schemes and scholarships
The Kanyashree Scheme, a scheme of monetary incentives for school and higher education for girls, is enabling the girl child to stand on her feet and successfully pursue her dreams. The Chief Minister recently announced that Kanyashree has helped in reducing the school dropout rate among girls by 16.5 per cent, which is a big achievement. More than Rs 1,000 crore is budgeted annually for the scheme.
With regard to scholarships, for scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) students below the poverty line (BPL), the government has instituted the Shikshashree Scheme. From 2014 to 2017, 38 lakh students have been brought under the scheme.
Another highly successful scheme for school students – for all students – is Sabuj Sathi, which provides bicycles to students to enable them to commute to school and thus ensures that distance never becomes a hindrance to pursuing their dreams of education. Forty lakh bicycles have already been distributed; 30 lakh more will be distributed this year. Earlier for government school students from classes IX to XII, from next year it might include class VIII as well.
For professional education, there is the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. For 2016-17, Rs 200 crore was budgeted for the scheme.
Human resource
In primary schools, 50,826 teachers have been appointed.
Comprising upper primary and secondary schools, 27,572 have been appointed.
Infrastructure
93,064 classrooms have been built.
During the last six years, 531 primary schools, 3,966 upper primary schools, 2,706 shishu Shiksha Kendras (SSKs), 166 Madhyamik Shiksha Kendras (MSKs) have been renovated and upgraded.
For minority students
Over 1 crore 24 lakh minority students have been given scholarships.
Bengal is among the very few states to provide digital literacy to students in government-aided madrasahs. Almost 2 lakh students have been trained so far.
Hostels, numbering 419, are being set up across the state at a cost of more than Rs 400 crore. Out of these, 147 have been operationalised.

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের বিচক্ষন নেতৃত্বে গত ছ’বছরে বাংলা ফিরে পেয়েছে শিক্ষা ক্ষেত্রে হৃত গৌরব। ২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর থেকেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের ঐকান্তিক অনুপ্রেরণায় রাজ্যের শিক্ষা ব্যাবস্থাকে ঢেলে সাজানো হচ্ছে।
প্রাথমিক থেকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যন্ত সমস্ত পর্যায়ে আনা হয়েছে প্রচুর প্রকল্প শিক্ষার প্রসারের জন্য।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার প্রাক-প্রাথমিক থেকে দ্বাদশ শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত সমস্ত ছাত্রছাত্রীকে বিনামুল্যে পাঠ্যপুস্তক প্রদানের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। বিভিন্ন রকমের মোট পাঠ্যপুস্তকের সংখ্যা ২৯৬। বছরে প্রায় ৯.৫ কোটি বই মুদ্রিত এবং বিতরিত হচ্ছে। দৃষ্টিহীন ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য বিশেষ পদ্ধতিতে ডিজাইন করা ব্রেইল পাঠ্যপুস্তক দেওয়া হয়েছে।
গত এক বছরে প্রাথমিকবিদ্যালয়ের ৫০.৩২ লক্ষ ছাত্রছাত্রীকে বিনামুল্যে জুতো দেওয়া হয়েছে। বিদ্যালয় শিক্ষা বিভাগ প্রতি বছর প্রথম শ্রেণী থেকে অষ্টম শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিনামুল্যে পোশাক বিতরণেরব্যবস্থা চালু করেছে।
স্বনির্ভর গোষ্ঠীগুলির সাহায্যে প্রাত্যহিক ভিত্তিতে ১.২ কোটি প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ের ছাত্রছাত্রীর জন্যে মিড-ডে-মিলের ব্যবস্থা চালু করা হয়েছে।
প্রতিটি বিদ্যালয়েই বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় জল ও শৌচালয়ের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। ৯৯০টি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে আনন্দদানের পরিকাঠামো (সি-স, সুইং ও স্লাইড) তৈরির নতুন উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।
গত ছয় বছরে শিক্ষাগত পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে ৯৩,০৬৪ টি অতিরিক্ত শ্রেণীকক্ষ নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে।
গত ছয় বছরে ৫৩১টি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়, ৩৯৬৬টি উচ্চ প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়, ২৭০৬টি এসএসকে, ১৬৬টি এমএসকে-এর নবরূপায়ন হয়েছে।
গত এক বছরে ২০০০ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ে ই-শ্রেনিকক্ষ-এর পরিকাঠামো নির্মাণের নতুনউদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। বিদ্যালয়ে কম্পিউটারের ব্যবহারকে উৎসাহিত করতে ৩৯১৫টি মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ে ৩৯,৩০০টি কম্পিউটার দেওয়া হয়েছে।
গত ছয় বছরে ৫৬৪টি জুনিয়র উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়কে উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে উন্নীত করা হয়েছে। গত ছয় বছরে ১৯০৯টি মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়কে উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ে উন্নীত করা হয়েছে।
বিদ্যালয়ের পরিকাঠামো উন্নতকরতে ৩০১৪টি বিদ্যালয়ে গ্রন্থাগারের জন্যও ১৫.৪৬কোটি টাকার অনুদান দেওয়া হয়েছে। বিদ্যালয়ের পরিকাঠামো উন্নত করতে ৩৭১৪টি বিদ্যালয়ের ল্যাবরেটরির জন্যও ৬২.১১ কোটি টাকা অনুদান দেওয়া হয়েছে।
২০১৪-১৫ শিক্ষাবর্ষে তফসিলি জাতির ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য ‘শিক্ষাশ্রী’ ভাতা চালু করা হয়।
২০১৪-১৭ সালের মধ্যে এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় প্রায় ৩৮ লক্ষ ছাত্রছাত্রীকে আনা হয়েছে। এই ভাতার টাকা সরাসরি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ব্যাঙ্কে যাচ্ছে। এই বছর থেকে এই প্রকল্পকে ই-গভরনেন্সের আওতায় আনা হয়েছে।
২০১৫-১৬ সালে নবম থেকে দ্বাদশ শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিনামুল্যে সাইকেল বিতরণ করা শুরু হয়। ২০১৫-১৭ সালের মধ্যে ৩৫ লক্ষ ছাত্রছাত্রীদের এই প্রকল্পে সাইকেল দেওয়া হয়। এ বছরের শেষ পর্যন্ত আরও৩০ লক্ষ সাইকেল বিলি করা হবে। স্বচ্ছতা বজায় রাখার জন্য এই প্রকল্পটি পুরোপুরি অনলাইনের মাধ্যমে নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয়।
সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে আর্থিকভাবে পশ্চাৎপদ অংশের মেধাবী পড়ুয়াদের যথার্থ সহায়তা দিতে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ মেধা তথা সংস্থান বৃত্তি প্রকল্পের জন্যও বাজেটে অর্থ বরাদ্দ ২০১৫-১৬ সালে ৪৫কোটি টাকা থেকে বাড়িয়ে ২০১৬-১৭ সালে ২০০ কোটি টাকা করা হয়েছে। এর ফলে প্রযুক্তি, ডাক্তারি, কারিগরি ও সাধারণ স্নাতক স্তরের পাঠ্যক্রমে ছাত্রবৃত্তিরপরিমাণ যেমন বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে, তেমনই উপকৃতের সংখ্যাও বেড়েছে। প্রসঙ্গত ২০১৬-১৭ সালে একাদশ ও দ্বাদশ শ্রেনীতে মোট ৭৩,৭৪৪ জন পড়ুয়া এই বৃত্তির সুযোগ লাভ করেছেন।
