Bangla’s tableaux, rejected by Centre, to be displayed in Kolkata

The Bangla Government had proposed the idea of showcasing Kanyashree, Sabujshree and Jal Dharo Jal Bharo in the State’s tableaux for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. After the proposal was rejected by the Centre, the government has now decided to showcase the tableaux in the State’s Republic Day function in Kolkata

The significance and impact that these schemes and projects have had on Bangla, both socially and environmentally, are profound and widespread. They have helped to make the common people more aware. All of them champion important causes – empowerment of women, protection of environment and conservation of water.

The tableaux have been planned on a grand scale and hence would be a feast for the eyes. It is hoped that they would become popular with the people. the Centre may have rejected Bangla’s idea, but the people of the State always have the greatest of love and respect for the Maa-Mati-Manush Government of the State.

To conserve environment, State Govt recycling paper & turning to digital mode

The Bangla Government has initiated a project to save paper, and thus conserve the environment, by using the digital medium for administrative work as much as possible.

The project has already been running at the State secretariat, Nabanna, for some time now. Now it is being replicated in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly, Howrah and North 24 Parganas. The district administrations give regular updates on the progress to Nabanna.

Efforts are being made to recycle the paper used for administrative purposes. For example, in Purba Bardhaman district, it was decided to give the used paper to self-help groups for them to turn them into writing pads, to be resold at different prices to the government offices.

Certain instructions for taking printouts have also been given. Officials have been instructed to not take printouts unless absolutely needed. For example, one or two-line e-mails should not be printed; then again, a short e-mail should be printed on half a page and the other half kept for printing something else.

KMC to come up with bio-mining facilities at Dhapa

The Bangla Government is bringing bio-mining facilities at Dhapa to reduce the piling of wastes at the landfill site.

Gradually the government will come up with a factory adjacent to the landfill site at Dhapa, where the waste will be segregated into organic and inorganic substances. The organic waste will be turned into compost and can be used as soil-conditioner for agricultural activities. The inorganic material found in the waste such as plastics, rubber, cloth, leather, wood and glass items will be used by the cement industry.

A Korean company will make a presentation about scientific disposal of solid waste at the office of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority this week.

Economy of the country is in doldrums: Mamata Banerjee

Like every year, Trinamool organised the annual Sanhati Dibas rally at Mayo Road today. Speaking on the occasion, Mamata Banerjee took on the Centre on the issue of sagging economy, unemployment and rising prices of essential commodities.

She said, “Prices of onions are skyrocketing. They are busy in Hindustan-Pakistan fights. Will that yield onions for people? It is astounding that the Finance Minister stands up in the House and says she does not eat onions. Whose subject is price rise? It’s the Centre’s responsibility.”

She also said, “Few months ago they wanted to know from the States how many tonnes of onions we need. We asked for 200 metric tonnes per week. They sent us 20 metric tonnes only. Out of which, 10 metric tonnes turned out to be of bad quality. They think they can take Bangla for granted.”

She wondered why the Centre had not taken any measures before-hand to augment onion production. Bangla Government has started onion cultivation in Purulia, Bankura, Murshidabad, she said.

The CM added, “The economy of the country is in a slump. The country will become bankrupt in future. People will become bankrupt. If the economy of the country prospers, people also prosper.”

She added, “People’s money is no longer safe. If you keep your savings at home, they will usurp it in the name of demonetisation. If you keep your money in the bank, there is no guarantee for its safety.”

Bangla means Business, opine foreign diplomats

The Bangla Government, under Mamata Banerjee, has been actively projecting the State as an ideal investment destination. Continuing the ride of development, the government is going to organise ‘Bengal Business Conclave’ in Digha on December 11-12 where many foreign investors will be present.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming Bengal Business Conclave, a meeting was recently held between FICCI and West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. It was attended by representatives of 35 foreign countries.
Representatives of a number of countries have informed that their countries wish to set up business councils in the state. Representatives of countries like Poland and Czech Republic have shown interest in coal blocks of Deocha Pachami. France has shown interest in sales and marketing of handicrafts of Bangla. The former FICCI president has lauded the Bangla CM for her efforts.

Bangla has a unique geographical location. The sincere approach by the state government along with the 12.58% growth in infrastructural economy has been a plus point for the State for making investments.

State Govt sets 2030 deadline for complete shift to e-vehicles

The Bangla Government has prepared a roadmap for switching to electric mode in public transportation sector in Kolkata by 2030. The State Transport Department will be overseeing the project.

It was for this project that the mayor (and Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister) received the C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Award in Copenhagen, Denmark recently.

West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) has already introduced a fleet of electric buses (-e-buses) that connect Kolkata and its expansive suburbs. The plan is to have an entire city fleet of 5,000 electric buses by 2030.

This would bring down per annum carbon dioxide emission by 7,82,560 tonnes. All these e-buses will replace old polluting buses. The shift will be gradual. Completing a 100 per cent shift is a decade-long process, according to a senior official of the Transport Department.

Already 80 electric buses are plying across Kolkata. Soon, New Town, which is also the booming IT hub of Kolkata, will see 50 e-buses. A hundred e-buses are being bought for Haldia and Durgapur-Asansol.

The government is ready with a plan of setting up 241 charging stations for electric vehicles in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area.

Not just buses, the West Bengal Transport department is also planning battery-run ferry services along the Hooghly. The vessels are one of the pivotal and cheapest modes of transport for thousands of passengers.
