WB CM slams the interim Rail Budget, calls it a gimmick

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee challenged the Congress-led Centre to confront her party politically instead of depriving Bengal of its legitimate due. She said that the introduction of Railway Budget for 2014-15 by the Union railway Minister was totally misleading and a gimmick to make false promises by an outgoing government in a vote-on-account budget, where the purpose is only to seek permission of the Parliament for incurring expenditure for coming four months.

In a Facebook post, she wrote:

“I am astonished and perturbed to see how the Union Government, which has miserably failed to deliver their promises, has announced introduction of 72 new trains in the Railway Budget today.

In his Budget Speech, the Railway Minister mentions introduction of Railway Budget for 2014-15. It is totally misleading and a gimmick to make false promises by an outgoing government in a vote-on-account budget, where the purpose is only to seek permission of the Parliament for incurring expenditure for coming four months.

It is against the Constitutional norms and absolutely unethical.

At a time when the Union Government has stopped giving funds for even 100 days` works, fresh announcements, introductions and commitments are being made, which will become a huge burden on the new government to take charge in a few months` time.

Who will implement these? Is it not a ploy to deceive the people for the interest of a single political party?”
