WB Govt to begin repair of roads in 8 districts

The State Government has called for a tender worth more than Rs 1100 crores to repair roads in the state. Never before has a tender worth such a huge amount been put up by the state government. A new record has been set by the Trinamool government under Ms. Mamata Banerjee.

The tender has been called for road repair work in districts like North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Darjeeling, Coochbehar, Burdwan and West Midnapore. Incidentally, a fund worth Rs 1800 crores was sanctioned by BFRG for the road infrastructure development of the Backward Districts. The work had already started. Now, the additional amount of Rs 1100 crores will be spent simultaneously in these 8 districts. Not only did the state Government allot the required fund, it completed the tendering process in the span of two months – January and February, 2014.

The Chief Minister had instructed the PWD to immediately take up the work of repairing roads across the state. The PWD has decided to work six-days a week till 31 March to meet the deadline.
