Special scheme for rearing ducks and chickens
The State Animal Husbandry Resources Development Department had in 2017 started a special scheme to help people set up chicken and duck farms and reproduction facilities on a commercial scale to satisfy the demand for eggs in the State.
Currently, as a result of this scheme, 10 crore eggs are being produced per year. When all the farms under this scheme start full-fledged production, the number of eggs would be raised to 70 crore per year.
The various facilities under the scheme are as follows:
Capital as grant: The State Government would pay Rs 8 lakh for every 10,000 birds (chickens and ducks) in a farm, with the maximum amount to be paid at Rs 80 lakh

- For micro and small farms: 40 per cent of the of the interest on 75 per cent of the loan
- For medium-sized farms: 25 per cent of the of the interest on 75 per cent of the loan
Subsidy on electricity: From the day of starting of commercial production till the period of five years, the government would pay …
- For micro and small farms: Rs 1.5 per unit (kilowatt-hour), with a maximum amount of Rs 5 lakh per year
- For medium-sized farms: Rs 1 per unit (kilowatt-hour), with a maximum amount of Rs 10 lakh per year
Part payment of electricity bill: From the day of starting of commercial production till the period of five years, the government would pay …
- For micro, small and medium farms farms: 75 per cent of the bill amount, with a maximum payment of Rs 2 lakh per year
Subsidy on stamp duty and registration fee: 50 per cent of the stamp duty and registration fee, provided the land is bought in the State and is registered for the purpose of opening a poultry farm
Categorisation of farms:
- Micro farms: 10,000 to 20,000 chickens and ducks
- Small farms: More than 20,000 up to 1 lakh chickens and ducks
- Medium farms: More than 1 lakh chickens and ducks
