Italy keen on collaborating with Bangla on jewellery, tourism
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Milan in September 2018 culminated in a series of direct interactions with diverse Italian regional business consortia and individual business-owners.
As a result, a 19-member delegation from the country came to the fifth Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which showed a keen interest in investing in sectors like jewellery, tourism, real estate, dairy products, plastics, business services, freight forwarding, building materials and construction.
Among these, jewellery and tourism have a lot of potential, felt representatives from Italy as well as Bangla.
Handcrafted jewellery is a tradition as much in Italy as in India, including in Bangla. Taking advantage of this, the Italian delegation has proposed collaboration on jewellery designing and manufacturing.
The head of marketing of Il Tari, a major international goldsmith centre in Marcianise in the province of Caserta, said that the centre is open to collaborations with designers and jewellery houses in the State.
The president of Confindustria Caserta, a chamber of commerce from the province, stated that since Bangla has a booming real estate environment, he was looking to collaborate with developers in the sector, primarily focusing on tourism.
He said that most people in India and the rest of the world identify Italy with well-established tourist spots like Rome, Milan, Venice, Sicily, Pompeii, Vatican and Pisa but the relatively unknown provinces have much to offer by way of tourism as well. So, tourism was a prime focus area for him to be here.
