Sam Pitroda to head IT Advisory Committees

Kolkata, July 1: The West Bengal government has taken the decision to form an expert committee comprising IT industry players and IT experts for faster development of the IT industry in Kolkata. State Industry & IT Minister Partha Chatterjee has expressed his interest to develop this industry.

The State Government has decided to rope in internationally acclaimed technocrat Sam Pitroda as Chairman of State IT Expert Committees for both hardware and software. Sam Pitroda has served as Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission (2005 to 2008) and is presently working as an advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations.

This is not the first time though, when Pitroda will be working with the Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee as he was previously given the responsibility to draft a ‘blueprint’ for a facelift of Kolkata after the Trinamool Congress assumed power in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 2010. Apart from that under the Chairmanship of Pitroda, railways constituted an expert committee on the usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Railways in 2009.

The State Government has received a communication from Sam Pitroda’s office confirming that Pitroda has accepted the offer.
