Chief Minister visits Surya Sen Market, announces Rs. 2 lakh to dead and Rs. 50,000 to the injured

A devastating fire broke out at the Surya Sen Market in Sealdah in central Kolkata in the wee-hours on Wednesday. All the shops in the market were gutted. The Chief Minister reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

 `I am shocked over the sad and unfortunate incident. We will not spare those found flouting safety norms. The guilty will be punished. I have ordered a probe and reports to be submitted in three-days. We have announced two-lakh rupees to the next of the kin and Rs. 50,000 to the injured`, said the Chief Minister. 

She said that a probe committee has been constituted and will submit its report within three-days. `I reiterate that those found guilty to have flouted the safety norms will be booked`, added the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister later paid a visit to the at injured at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. She also went to the morgue at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where the dead were brought for postmortem. She personally took stock of the situation and interacted with relatives and assured them of all assistance.

The Chief Minister ordered the authorities to arrange for cars to carry the bodies of those who hailed from Jharkhand and other cities.
