Tirtha Sathi to revolutionise management of large congregations
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Tirtha Sathi is all set to revolutionise the whole management of large congregations like Sagar Mela that sees 20,000 footfalls on a day. The Bengal Government is setting up this massive security infrastructure to ensure a Gangasagar Mela passes off without any glitches.
The whole temple zone, which includes the fair zone, is going to be wrapped in a security blanket of security cameras. Kachuberia, Lot 8, Chemaguri, Benubon and Namkhana – the first four on Sagar Island and the last on the mainland, across the Hooghly, and a major landing site for Gangasagar Mela – are the areas going to be covered.
The temple zone consists of a 300-metre (m) radius around the Kapil Muni Ashram and a 1.5-kilometre by 100-metre beach area. The three main bus stands at Harwood Point, in the buffer zone and in Babughat (in Kolkata) would also be covered by security cameras.
Besides, all the vessels which will be ferrying pilgrims to and from Sagar Mela will be tracked with GPS devices to update commuters with the real-time arrival and departure schedule of vessels from and to jetties on Muri Ganga, the widest of the Hooghly’s tributaries.
In all, there will be 500 CCTV cameras, 40 52-inch LED screens, 40 terminal computers for sound-the-clock monitoring, 46 giant screens to beam real-time vessel movement schedules, four drone cameras and two helium balloon-boarded cameras.
BSNL is setting up the fibre optical cable lines needed to join this network of cameras and television screens. In fact, this whole network is being developed as a model which can be replicated anywhere to deal with colossal congregation. A low cost pre-paid mobile service for pilgrims called ‘Sagar 49’ will also be available.
The entire system will not only be for surveillance and security, but will also help to manage any disaster or untoward incident.

সাগর মেলায় বাড়তি নজরদারির জন্য এ বার বসছে ৫০০ সিসি ক্যামেরা। বাবুঘাট থেকে শুরু করে যাত্রাপথের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় এবং মেলা চত্বরে বসবে ক্যামেরা। যার লিঙ্ক থাকবে নবান্ন পর্যন্ত। চাইলে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় কলকাতায় বসে নিজেও নজরদারি চালাতে পারবেন কন্ট্রোল রুম থেকে।
সাগর মেলার প্রস্তুতির খুঁটিনাটি নিজের চোখে দেখে গিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর পরামর্শ মতোই বসানো হচ্ছে এতগুলি সিসি ক্যামেরা। প্রকল্পের নাম মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর নির্দেশেই রাখা হয়েছে ‘তীর্থসাথী’।
মেলার সময়ে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষের ভিড়ে যাতায়াত অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ঝুঁকির হয়ে ওঠে। সব দিকে নদর রাখতেই তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি নির্ভর নজরদারি ব্যবস্থা রাখছে জেলা প্রশাসন। মেগা কন্ট্রোল রুম, লাইভ ভিডিও মনিটরিং হবে বাবুঘাট থেকে মেলা পর্যন্ত।
কী ভাবে চলবে এই বিশাল কর্মযজ্ঞ? জেলা প্রশাসনের কর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, ৪০টি বড় এলইডি স্ক্রিনে লাইভ ভিডিও সম্প্রচারিত হবে। প্রতিটি স্ক্রিনের দিকে তীক্ষ্ণ নজর রাখবেন একজন করে অফিসার এবং একজন তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি কর্মী। তাঁদের প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হচ্ছে। কোথাও দুর্ঘটনা ঘটলে, কেউ অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়লে, ফেরি আটকে পড়লে, ভিড় নিয়ন্ত্রণে কারও গাফিলতি থাকলে, অযথা যানজট হলে— সবটাই ধরা পড়বে স্ক্রিনে। দ্রুত পদক্ষেপ করতে সুবিধা হবে তাতে।
অতি উচ্চক্ষমতা সম্পন্ন অপটিক ফাইবার কেবল লাগানো হয়েছে কাকদ্বীপ থেকে গঙ্গাসাগর পর্যন্ত।
