Mamata storms red bastion

Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, took centre-stage on the banks of Gandheswari on Sunday, delivering her speech to hundreds of thousands, who either sat or stood on the dry riverbed. Breaking her silence on the abduction of a school teacher cum-social worker and a police officer from the Ayodhya Hills, Ms. Banerjee said, “With folded hands, I appeal to those behind the abduction to release them. I appeal to such people to give up violence and join the mainstream. Not all policemen are bad.†From Bankura, Ms. Banerjee left for Kakdwip to meet the family members of villagers who died in Saturday’s trawler capsize. But at this moment, I must also stand by their side. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones,†she said.
