Chief Minister meets SI Tapas Chowdhury`s family, says those guilty will not be spared
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee who is also the Police Minister met the family member of the slain sub inspector working with the special branch of Kolkata Police Tapas Chowdhury who fell prey to the bullet of an anti social element on Tuesday during the elections at Hari Mohan Ghosh College in Garden Reach area in Kolkata. Tapas Chowdhury is survived by his old mother, unmarried sister, wife and two children – 18 year old daughter and a son studying in class nine.
The Chief Minister who was on a two-day East Midnapore district tour after hearing of the gruesome incident had immediately ordered her cabinet ministers to take stock of the situation and ensured all cooperation to the family of the deceased police officer. She gave instruction to her ministers to remain with the family members until all the formalities were complete.
On Thursday on her way back to Kolkata, the Chief Minister, reached the residence of the slain officer in Sarada Pally, Thakurpukur in Kolkata and spent nearly 15-minutes with the bereaved family.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said that she had talks with everybody in the family and has assured them all cooperation at all levels. `I am extremely shocked to what had happen and have no words to express my grief to the family`, said the Chief Minister.
`The daughter of Tapas Chowdhuiry will get a clerical job in the police department and I have also instructed the department to continue to give the salary including increments to his wife since I am told that he had service till 2017. Apart from that the State Government will take all the responsibility of his son`s education and higher education`, she added.
The Chief minister said, `I have also asked to give five lakh rupees from Chief Minister`s Relief Fund and an additional five lakh rupees to his mother who is aged and ailing. There is also an unmarried sister. In absence of Tapas Chowdhury`s mother, the sister will be a nominee and get the money`. In addition this family will be entitles to the Accident Benefit of Rs. 15 lakh.
The Chief Minister said that she has given the orders to nab all those who were behind this heinous crime, `I have asked to arrest all those responsible for the killing and I assure you that the missing names will be included in the FIR. Let law take its own course`, said the Chief Minister who made it clear that under no circumstances criminals and crime will be spared in the State.
