Chief Minister holds review meeting at Swastha Bhawan
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee who is also the Health Minister of the State on Friday afternoon spent some time with the members of the health department at Swastha Bhawan.
She convened a meeting at Swastha Bhawan and took stock of the situation in the health sector in the State. During the interactive session, the Chief Minister mentioned various development programmes undertaken to improve health facilities. She informed that there will be more multi-specialty-hospitals and Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) in the State. The Chief Minister also took various questions from the members and replied to their queries.
The Chief Minister said that the State government plans to take an initiative to build a critical-care-unit in every sub-divisional hospital within next six months till the multi-specialty-hospitals were under construction. The patients can avail the treatment in these units. `I propose to build critical-care-units in sub-divisional hospitals since it will take some time for the proposed multi-specialty-hospitals to function. A patient residing in Birbhum district is compelled to come to Burdwan for treatment. Once these units will start functioning, patients can avail the treatment`, she said. The Chief Minister slammed the previous government for not doing anything but ruining the system completely.
The State government also plans to pass a new Act making the proposal to serve one-year in villages under the village-service-programme mandatory for the doctors who pass out from medical colleges in the State. `We are planning to make this mandatory. This will be included in their training programme. After completing one-year in villages, these doctors will have a better idea of the rural India, I am sure this will help them to become better doctors`, said the Chief Minister.
Apart from that it was also decided to introduce mechanised cleanliness programme at Medical Colleges initially and subsequently it will be extended to hospitals.
The Chief Minister reiterated that under no circumstances safety of the patients and tidiness in the hospitals will be compromised. She said the stocks will have to be monitored at regular intervals since there were stray cases of administering medicines with expiry date.
Earlier in the day the Chief Minister flagged off BCIM car rally at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake in Kolkata.
