Statewide protest for JEE in Bangla: Didi

A meeting of the expanded working committee of Trinamool Congress took place at Trinamool Bhavan today. Various issues were discussed. After that, the party Chairperson spoke to the Press:

She said that the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya case was expected next week, and she hoped that there would be no untoward incidents. The unity of the country must not be affected.

About holding the national-level Joint Entrance Examination in Bengali, she said that it was a just demand as many students across the country would benefit. There is no problem with holding the examination in Gujrati, she said, but the benefit of writing the examination in a student’s regional language must be given to all students.

On the above issue, the party would hold protest marches across all blocks on November 11 from 2pm to 3pm. Trinamool Yuva Congress would participate too. She said other parties would be invited to join the movement.

In the context of education, she said that the BJP has been changing a lot of things. Even National Education Day would be celebrated after a leader of their choice, rather than the educationist Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Trinamool would continue to make people aware about the various issues regarding the NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) as the party does not want the secular fabric of the country to be torn. Trinamool does not support the NRC.

She said that sometimes it is being said that refugees from Bangladesh would be given citizenship through CAB. But according to the pact between Indira Gandhi and Mujibur Rahman, they are already citizens and have all the necessary documents for that purpose.

She extended her best wishes to all for various festivals. November 10 is Nabi Dibas and November 12 is the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. She will participate in the programme organised by the Sikh community at the Maidan on November 11 and will visit a gurdwara in Siliguri on November 12.

On November 13, she will visit the Ras Mela in Cooch Behar. There is a meeting with Trinamool workers the next day. She will return to Kolkata on the 15th. From November 18 to 20, there are party programmes in Malda, Murshidabad and Dakshin Dinajpur districts. The Bangladeshi Prime Minister is coming to Kolkata on November 22 to watch the cricket match at Eden Gardens. Mamata Banerjee will be there too.

Trinamool organises protests across Bangla against NRC

All India Trinamool Congress organised rallies and street corner meetings at various places in the State, as part of “mass protests” against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the “divisive” politics of the BJP. These protests were carried out on September 7 and 8.

Carrying posters and placards in several districts, Trinamool supporters shouted slogans against the BJP-led government and demanded immediate repeal of the NRC in Assam.

“Protest rallies were organised in various parts of the state yesterday and today. Our party workers have vowed not to allow NRC in Bengal. Locals, too, joined in,” AITC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said.

“Party cadres have vowed that they can sacrifice their lives but would never allow division of Bengal,” senior party leader and minister Tapan Dasgupta said.

Trinamool Chairperson is also going to participate in a mega rally against NRC on September 12 in north Kolkata.

Modi Government is the biggest threat to the country: Mamata Banerjee at Pandua

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Pandua in Hooghly constituency. In her speech she said that the Modi Government is the biggest threat to the country.

She added that it is our misfortune that Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. She urged people to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Highlights of her speech:

  • Modi Government is the biggest threat to the country
  • They have destroyed all the constitutional institutions. Democracy is under attack
  • It is our misfortune that Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister
  • The CPI(M) committed torture against Opposition workers for 34 years. The harmads have become BJP’s ustads
  • Those who orchestrate riots, practice divisive politics, do not deserve to rule the country
  • The BJP claims it is a Hindu party. How can that be? Hinduism is an ancient religion. BJP was formed only a few years ago
  • BJP uses Hinduism for politics. They bring shame to our Gods and Goddesses
  • Neither Hindus, nor Muslims participate in riots. Leaders like Narendra Modi organise riots for political reasons
  • What have they done in the last five years to deserve your vote?
  • We work for people of all communities, castes and creed. We do not discriminate against anyone
  • Like you see ‘440V – Danger’ signs, BJP is also dangerous for the country
  • Those who were initiated in politics through riots are saying mothers in Bengal are worried about the safety of their children
  • Modi is a blatant liar. He is spreading falsehoods about Bengal without any homework
  • They are distributing money. They are luring people to their rallies by offering money
  • They are organising rallies with maces and swords. This is not Bengal’s culture. Have you ever seen such rallies during Basanti Puja?
  • Falsehoods and propaganda is their only strength.
  • The Prime Minister, instead of bolstering peace, is inciting people into violence
  • Some untoward incidents happened. After investigation, CID found out that those were cases of suicide. But they are claiming those are political murders. They are trying to spread tension
  • Like Kalidas axed the branch he was sitting on, Modi is also dividing the country
  • CPI(M), Congress and BJP have come together in Bengal
  • He intimidates everyone – from industrialists to media houses. Even other political leaders are afraid of him. But I have struggled against the CPI(M)’s brutal regime. I am not afraid of anyone
  • Narendra Modi does not visit Bengal when there are floods, droughts or any other problem. Like a seasonal bird he comes here only during elections
  • In the name of NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill, they want to declare you as foreigners and drive you away. Don’t let them get away with their divisive politics

Marketing a gesture of courtesy is not conducive in democracy: Mamata Banerjee at Suri

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Suri in Birbhum district. In her speech she attacked the Prime Minister and said marketing a gesture of courtesy is not conducive in democracy.

Highlights of her speech:

  • Modi babu has said I send him kurtas. Where is the problem? We send gifts to all during Durga Puja. We have opened the Biswa Bangla brand. We are empowering our artisans. We send these products not just to Modi babu but everyone. We don’t publicise it like Modi babu. Courtesy and politics are different. I send letters on birthdays to everyone.
  • Marketing a gesture of courtesy is not conducive in democracy.
  • I heard that yesterday the Prime Minister said we raise ‘goons’ here. He also said that Bangla did not witness any development. Another ‘signboard’ leader said Birbhum is Rabindranath Tagore’s birthplace. They don’t have any knowledge. They don’t do any homework
  • They say that nothing has been done in Birbhum. I challenge them to prove me wrong. After Trinamool came to power, 99% families in this district have got some benefit from the government.
  • In Birbhum the largest coal mine in the country is coming up. I want to know from Narendra Modi he delayed the process for three years by not signing an MOU. I want an answer for that.
  • This is a project worth Rs 12,000 crore and thousands of locals will get employment. Your government hasn’t done anything about it under your instruction, as you don’t want to give Bangla anything.
  • Just for the lack of an MoU, work cannot be started. I have called and enquired several times and the only answer I got is that the Prime Minister has said no. So, don’t you feel any shame?
  • You want to know what Mamata Banerjee has done? First you answer me, give an explanation. Then point your finger at me. First you answer, then ask for votes.
  • We worship with flowers. Their worship involves armed rallies with mace and swords. This is not the culture of Bengal
  • Bengal does not tolerate riots. Like a human body is incomplete without all organs, the society is incomplete without all communities
  • I belong to a simple family. They are calling me goon. If I am a goon, what are you? I have never orchestrated riots. We don’t do politics of violence. Do you remember 2002 Godhra riots?
  • They are controlling the media. Journalists are afraid to speak out or else they will be killed
  • I cannot be intimidated. I have fought against the Left. I have been beaten up but I never gave up. I am not afraid of Narendra Modi
  • They are suffering from the fear of defeat. That is why they are coming to Bengal so often to campaign. They can never be seen during disasters or accidents. They come here as seasonal birds
  • The more you abuse us, they higher the mandate will be in our favour
  • They are bringing boxes full of money. This is the money of people. This money was looted during demonetisation
  • Do not allow anyone to buy your votes for money. Cast your vote without fear
  • Earlier he used to call himself a chaiwallah. Then he gave up his kettle for Jaitley. Now he pretends to be a chowkidar
  • Teach these rioters a lesson. Bring about a change in government at Centre. Give them a democratic burial

After Mantra Challenge, Mamata Banerjee challenges Modi to an open debate

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today kicked-off her campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, by addressing a public meeting organised by N. Chandrababu Naidu at Visakhapatnam.

In her speech, she challenged the Prime Minister to an open debate. Slamming Narendra Modi for not addressing a single press conference in the last five years, she said, in the open debate they will pose questions to each other and there would be no teleprompters.

Highlights of her speech:

  • This election is significant. You must vote wisely. We have to fight for the country
  • It is unfortunate that Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister. He and his party president are targeting and intimidating all Opposition leaders
  • In the previous election, they won people’s trust on the plank of ‘chaiwallah’. Now they have become ‘chowkidar’
  • They are not people’s chowkidar. They are chowkidar of demonetisation, chowkidar of loot and chowkidar of lies
  • So many jawans have lost their lives. Terrorism has increased in his tenure. Farmers are committing suicide. Unemployment is at 45 year high
  • The PM has not addressed a single press conference in the last five years. They are afraid to face the media
  • Even while giving speeches, the PM needs teleprompters. And he always tells lies
  • The leader of the country must be like Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Azad, Ambedkar, Netaji, Rajendra Prasad and other stalwarts
  • He cannot even become block leader and he aspires to become the leader of the nation
  • BJP party headquarter resembles a shopping mall
  • After the Pulwama attack, why did the PM not address any all-party meeting?
  • The country is burning. They are killing people in the name of gau-raksha
  • We do not want Modi because we do not want unemployment.
  • We do not want Modi because we do not want riots.
  • We do not want Modi because we want communal harmony
  • Who will become the Prime Minister, will be decided after the elections.
  • We serve the people 365 days a year
  • I challenge Modi to an open debate. I am ready to fight against him politically. Let him pose question for me, I will reply. I will ask him questions and he has to reply. There will be no teleprompters
  • Modi cannot come back to power with the help of select-few media channels
  • If we have to save the country, Modi must be defeated
  • They are not allowing State Governments to function.
  • They are destroying the Constitution. The independence of the institutions is under attack
  • If Modi and Amit Shah come back to power, the country will not remain the same anymore. We will lose all our freedom
  • We will work together to form a people’s government at Centre

Khaki uniform must not be misused: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee took exception to appointment of former BSF director general KK Sharma as special police observer for Bangla and Jharkhand during the Lok Sabha elections.

“How can a retired police officer look after the deployment of serving police personnel? During his tenure as the DG, he has attended an RSS program and that too in uniform,” she said.

“Is he an impartial observer? Is this a way to ensure we will get justice? Is this democracy? I respect the Khakhi uniform. It must not be misused. It must only be used for the nation’s interest,” she added.

She also said, “I have evidence that my mobile is being tapped. My calls and messages are being monitored. All Opposition leaders are under scanner, including people at high positions in various institutions.”

The dictatorial Modi Govt must go: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a meeting of the extended core committee of the party. She gave directions to the party workers and leaders regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Mamata Banerjee said the situation in the country is dangerous and the country needs ‘poriborton’ (change).

Highlights of her speech:

Those who do not have any work, only give speeches. Their only work is to give bhashan.

They have completely ‘captured’ Doordarshan. They are misusing all the agencies. They are spending more money on PR than funding projects.

From job security to national security, internal security to farmers’ security, unemployment to demonetisation – we witnessed a disaster in India for the last five years

India’s cultural heritage, unity, federal structure, institutions, constitution, history – everything has been destroyed

There is RSS stamp on everything today. They follow an extremist ideology, spreading hate and violence

Even journalists who question the government are being harassed, whether on social media or even threatened at their homes

There is no rule of law in the country.

In Bangla, we said “Bodla noy, bodol chai” (we want change not revenge). But that is not the case in UP

All the thieves have united. All the CBI-ED ponthis (followers) have united.

They do not follow the basic courtesies in politics

Wearing a fetti (scarf) on head, they are spreading hate. We respect the sadhus of Bharat Sevasram Sangha or Ramakrishna Mission. But not these people

If you come across any rumour mongering in your area, in case someone tries to incite riots, inform the police

Whether it is Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha, our MPs have the best performance. They have worked with their heads held high even in this atmosphere of fear

Whenever our MPs have tried to speak out against the government, they start a CBI investigation against them

Since 1995, I have been demanding electoral reforms. We want state funding of election. Small parties cannot match the funding of larger parties

The economy of the country has become a disaster

There is an atmosphere of hate prevailing in the country. They are creating divisions between people. This has never happened before

They are using social media to spread fake news. They are using pictures of UP or some other place and claiming the incident happened here. Their entire politics rests on lies

They are trying to “create” an atmosphere of threat by holding bike rallies at midnight.

CPI(M)-Congress bhai bhai – we have seen that already. We are least bothered about them

In the Panchayat elections Jagai-Madhai-Bidaai (CPI(M)-Congress-BJP) had an understanding in many places

Despite the huge debt burden, we have extended the Swasthya Sathi scheme to 7.5 crore people

We have waived off khajna tax and mutation fees on agricultural land

We are paying the full premium of crop insurance scheme for the farmers

We have started a new Krishak Bandhu scheme. Farmers will receive Rs 5,000 annually for every acre of land

Some people with ulterior motives are spreading rumours to incite communal tension

Let us take the pledge today to remove the dictatorial Modi regime from power

When they go out of power, truth about their financial corruption will come to light

Jagai-Madhai, the ‘brothers in arms’, who came to power after riots, are running the government

No one had the gumption to protest against their misdeeds, except us

We want poriborton in India. We want Modi-Amit Shah to be ousted

We had earlier said ‘Du hajar unish, BJP finish’. BJP hatao, Desh bachao

The government had intelligence input about Pulwama attack. Why were jawans not airlifted? Why were roads not sanitised?

They want to do politics over the dead bodies of jawans. People will not be fooled.

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time

Workers are the biggest assets in Trinamool.

A true leader takes everyone along. A true leader rises from the ranks through action

Does he (Modi) do anything else apart from posing for the cameras?

They might try to manipulate the EVMs. Our workers must be trained about VVPAT machines

They are dreaming of winning 23 seats in Bangla by tampering EVMs. We will show them

The days of Maddy babu are over. The days of arrogance are over. They days of traitors are over

Bangla will show the way to the rest of the country

I have never seen such low-level politics in my life. This is politics of the absurd

We have to win 42 seats out of 42

2019 will be a fight for ‘poriborton’ at Centre: Mamata Banerjee at TMCP Foundation Day rally

A rally to commemorate the foundation day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad was held at Mayo Road in Kolkata today. Like every year, Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed the students on the occasion.

Mamata Banerjee said youths and students are the future of the country and they have to lead the fight for ‘poriborton’ (change) at Centre in 2019. She also advised them to be active on social media to counter the ‘fake narrative’ of BJP.

Highlights of Mamata Banerjee’s speech:

The students are the future of the country. You will be the architects of the nation’s future. You will shape the society. Students must focus on building bonds with people. Leaders of the future will emerge from among the student community.

Becoming a political activist does not make anyone bad. My political career started as a student activist.

Life is not just about education. You have to become good human beings. Swami Vivekananda had said development of character is the most important thing in life.

28 August is a historic day for us. We renew our pledge today to serve the people, to live up to the ideals we fight for.

Students must use social media wisely. Some political parties have turned Facebook into ‘Fakebook’ using money power.

We have struggled for 34 years against the Left. And now the Leftists have bowed down before the Right-Wing. Ram had fought Ravan, not Rahim. ‘Fake’ Ram has come from Delhi and ‘Bam’ (Left) have joined them.

Trinamool-led Bengal Government took a stand in favour of right to privacy and the Supreme Court gave a verdict in favour of that right.

From birth to death, the Centre wants to impose Aadhaar on everything. They will have access to your personal details – what you say, what you do, where you go, what you eat – by linking Aadhaar with phone. What will happen if the data is hacked? What about individual right to privacy?

Some leaders give only bhashan not ration. Where is the achhe din? People cannot even have sweets, thanks to the burden of taxes. We are doing all the work – from building toilets to digitisation – and they are taking all the credit.

The youth and students will have to bring ‘poriborton’ in 2019. You will have to make ‘New India’ by infusing fresh blood.

They have started ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ project and the budget for entire country is Rs 100 crore. That means roughly Rs 2.5 crore per State. What is the use? In Bengal, we have ‘Kanyashree’ scheme and have allotted Rs 5000 crore for it.

They are trying to incite violence between Hindus and Muslims in Bengal over Durga Puja. Do not fall prey to their incitement. In our culture, bishorjon never happens on Ekadoshi. Why is the BJP so insistent on having bishorjon on that day? They could not handle the situation in Panchkula. If Ganapati Visarjan and Muharram fall on the same day, can they manage? Let them set their own house in order. Manage Panchkula and Uttar Pradesh first.

In Panchkula, they could not handle one incident. More than 30 people lost their lives. If some incident happens in BJP-ruled State, Army is immediately called in. But no help is offered to non-BJP States.

Trinamool is ‘naram-garam’. In the service of people, we are ‘naram’ but if someone crosses our path, we are ‘garam’.

Our slogan is ‘BJP Hatao, Desh Bachao’. Bengal will show the way.

Didi Direct – An interview with Mamata Banerjee

Should we call you the Chief Minister or just Didi?

I prefer being called Mamata Di rather than Chief Minister.

Is your party ready for the upcoming election?

We are always with people. We believe in working for people. We never delay our work. We fulfil the promises we make. Our Manifesto is complete. It will be released next Friday. We are proud of our workers and leaders at grassroots. Our workers are our assets. They are ready for the election. While others engage in slander, we work silently. Just like a three-tier Panchayat,  I believe democracy has three tiers: People > Political Parties > Support of the Electorate.

What would you say about the Congress-CPM alliance?

I had said way back in 1997 that CPI(M) and Congress have an unofficial understanding. We had decided to break away from the ‘watermelon’ Congress (green on the outside, red on the inside) in 1997. They gave up ideology to help CPI(M). A fight without ideology and principles is meaningless. A political party without ideology can never have people’s support. I do not support BJP because of their communal politics. I do not support CPI(M) because of their politics of violence. If someone is in a strong position, why would they go for an alliance?

In 2001, Congress put up dummy candidates against us. This is not an alliance. This is the politics of opportunism for survival. They are facing an existential crisis. The Marxist and the Marxist-Congress Party are running a joint venture. Why is the Congress not fighting in alliance with CPI(M) in Kerala?  People from all walks of life have been given a ticket by us – doctors, sportspersons, journalists, singers, artistes. I believe in ethics. I do not believe in personal attacks. I have respect for Jyoti Basu, Atal ji, Asok Ghosh & others.

What do you expect in the coming days?

Bengal has turned around now in the last four years. Bengal will show the way to the Centre in fthe uture. CPI(M) was in power for 34 years but didn’t work for the State. Cong/BJP have been in power at the Centre but didn’t help Bengal. A section of the media is working at the behest of some Opposition parties. Some people are opposed to me because I am not an intellectual, cannot speak good English and was born in a humble family. My life has been one of struggle. People are my family. Working for people is my responsibility.

The candidature of Bhaichung Bhutia – was it a masterstroke?

Bhaichung Bhutia has more transparent credentials than many politicians. He is an asset of the country and has captained the national team.

Have you been angry or sad when slander have been directed towards you?

I have felt insulted, often sad and sometimes angry when some people spread canards about my credentials. I believe in God. I know one day the truth about chit funds will come out. They were started during CPI(M) rule. Our leaders have been arrested because of misuse of power. No proof has been given against them. People are intelligent. I will fight the war of votes not the war of courts. People are the ultimate judge in a democracy. Congress and BJP were in power at the Centre. Why did they not act? Where was SEBI?

What is your opinion on intolerance?

There is religious intolerance. There is verbal intolerance. It is a trend now to hound someone you do not like. Artistes, industrialists, social workers, performers, are living in fear today because of this intolerance.

The media is focusing on Trinamool for the wrong reasons…

A section of the media is working at the behest of some political parties is doing this. Some people are opposed to me because of who I am… as I told you before.

The stories of factional feud in Trinamool are a creation of the media. Disputes between two clubs, family quarrels are being projected as internal party squabbles. During our rule, even ruling party members were arrested if they break the law. This was not the case earlier. Political violence has decreased in Bengal after 2011. Our slogan was ‘Bodla noy, bodol chai‘ (Change not revenge).

Media puts me on trial even when I am not at fault.

Kamduni has got justice. Tapasi Malik (in Singur) was also raped and murdered. She is still waiting for justice. Kolkata is India’s safest metro city. Earlier FIRs were not even taken. There was no media back then. We have not forgotten (the political violence at) Keshpur, Netai, Kandua, Nandigram… We have not forgotten the horrible cases of political violence at Marichjhanpi, Anandamargi, Singur, Bantala, Amta… What did the media do then? Where is all the footage?

Look at cyber-crime. It has become a huge issue now… We have set up 89 new police stations, 60 female police stations and 80 fast track courts.

Why does the Leader of Opposition not meet the Chief Minister of Bengal once a month?

Even I have the same question. It happens in every State. We should be constructive. I have paid visits to Asok Ghosh or Jyoti Basu in the past. The Trinamool Congress decided to put an end to the culture of strikes and bandhs three years before we came to power. We believe in constructive and positive politics.

The State has a huge debt, so why clubs are being given money?

What is wrong if clubs get money to improve their infrastructure? Even the CPI(M) organised a soiree called Hope 86. The government spent Rs 1.4 lakh crore to pay off debts. See the latest report of the Economic Survey and how Bengal is placed there. We have undertaken administrative reforms. We created Alipurduar district. Six more districts will be set up. Beds and medicines at government hospitals are free. Forty one new multi super speciality hospitals are coming up.

Tell us about the Didi of the people…

I love people. Trinamool was created to serve the people. I do not take a salary as CM. I pay for the fuel for the car I use. I pay for my own tea at office. When we become good human beings only then will people accept us. Muri (puffed rice) is my favourite food. I like cooking. Call me for an apolitical interview sometime and I will share some recipes. (Then she happily shared three recipes including Dim-posto bora).

What is the scope of doing business in Bengal?

Bengal is the gateway to the North East. It is THE destination now. So many big ticket projects are coming up in the State, from coal blocks to power projects. We are developing an alternative route to connect north and south Bengal. Maldah and Balurghat airports are being developed; new helipads are being set up. We are Number One in small scale industries and skill development. A lot of scope is still there. We have a land map and a land bank. Bengal is a power surplus State. We have created an Employment Bank. It takes time for big industries to come.

How are you following up on the success of London visit or the Bengal Global Business Summit?

Investments worth Rs 2.45 lakh crore were received by us at the Bengal Global Business Summit  in 2015 of which projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore are already in process. Investments worth Rs 2.50 lakh crore came in during the Bengal Global Business Summit, 2016.

The latest Economic Survey by the Government of India shows inflation is lowest in Bengal. Just three per cent. Our GSDP is 12% and the GDP of India is 7.5% . Agricultural growth of India is 1.1% and that of Bengal is 5.5% . There is more. Bengal has India’s first greenfield airport. Bengal is being connected to Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan by road. Industrial growth of Bengal is 10.5% against India’s 7.3% .

We have provided services under various schemes to 8.5 crore out of the 9 crore people in Bengal. We have 100% coverage under mid-day meal scheme. The four top districts in Swachh Bharat Mission in India are from Bengal. Capital expenditure of our State has increased six times in four and a half years while planned expenditure has increased three times.

I have conducted 105 block-level administrative meetings. We have set up a Secretariat in north Bengal. Although the Centre has stopped giving funds for several schemes like ICDS or Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan, we are funding them.

No matter how much work you do, there will be always be scope to do even more work.

What have you done for Singur?

Our government brought a Bill to return the land in Singur, our first decision after coming to power. It is sub-judice. We live by our commitments. We won the case in the HC but now it has been challenged in Supreme Court. We give allowances to the farmers in Singur. We did our work. We are always close to the people of Singur. We do not support SEZ or any forcible acquisition of land.

Is the land law a major hurdle to attract industry?

We have a land bank. If anybody wants to start an industry, land is there. I will create more parks for IT. But we do not support SEZ. I try to help people as much as I can, in each and every respect. We are against FDI in multi-brand retail. We even walked out of central Government on the issue.

Do you want the people who had gone abroad to come back to Bengal?

Seventy eight lakh mandays were lost in Bengal before 2011 due to bandhs. Now the number of mandays lost is zero. Those who are in power, let them work. Do not destroy the infrastructure that is being built by our hard work. We built infrastructure in health, agriculture, transport, roads, education. Who gave these vandals the rights to destroy things and hamper progress. CPM could not do anything in 34 years and they are now hindering progress. I want the people who have gone abroad to come back here and do business in Bengal. There is peace here. See how we celebrate our religious festivals. They are always peaceful without any untoward incident.

We have set up 45 new colleges, 15 new universities, 171 Kisan Mandis and cold storages. 1500 new buses have been introduced.

We will keep working for people. We will come up with new innovative ways to specially fulfil the demands of new generation.

Do you miss anything?

The only thing I miss is my days in Parliament. I was always a keen listener to the debates.

Will you write an autobiography?

I have been writing continuously. I write whenever I can find the time.

Of the 294 seats how many do you expect Trinamool to win?

We have dedicated all 294 seats to the people of Bengal. They will decide how many they will bless us with. We have tried our best. People gave us a chance to serve. We tried hard and did our best.

I want to lead my life as a commoner. I have never aspired for power. I want to live like a commoner, like an LIP – ‘Less Important Person’.

Do you have any regrets?

We really want to do more work. Generate new ideas. New visions. We have had obstructions. Files were missing when we joined office in 2011. History will chronicle the amount of work we have done in the last four years.

Had we come to power in Bengal a few years ago, we could have done much more. I want to see Bengal as the best in the world.

I request the media to criticise me if you like… but do not ever insult Bengal.
