West Bengal Chief Minister to convene Industry Meet in Mumbai today
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee will be meeting eminent businessmen and film personalities in her bid to attract investments for West Bengal today in Mumbai.
This is the maiden trip to the country`s commercial capital by the West Bengal Chief Minister after taking over the reins two years ago.
Accompanied by West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra, Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee Urban Development Minister Firad Hakim, Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas, and Ministers of various Departments, Ms Banerjee will address industry captains at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai today at 5 pm.
“I along with several of my ministers and departmental secretaries will today (Wednesday) leave for Mumbai where I will address industrialists at a meeting on Thursday,“ West Bengal CM said in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Along with the industry captains from Mumbai, their counterparts from the eastern metropolis including ITC Chairman YC Deveshwar, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Chairman Sanjiv Goenka and Ambuja Group Chairman Harsh Neotia are likely to attend the meeting.
Invites to industrial houses, including the Tata Group, Reliance Group, Godrej Group, Bajaj Group have been sent.
With actor Shah Rukh Khan – the state's brand ambassador – likely to be a certainty, there are also talks of the presence of megastar Amitabh Bachchan and other film personalities both from Mumbai and Kolkata.
“The Chief Minister will explain the Bengal Government`s position on industry during an interactive session on Thursday. Investors in Mumbai are not aware of the situation in Bengal. The Chief Minister will also announce the clearance of some pending projects,“ a leader said. “A cultural event will be organised.“
The West Bengal Government has been organizing industry summits in Kolkata for the past two years to attract investment to West Bengal.
