Same rules should apply to everyone: Mamata Banerjee on demonetisation

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today strongly criticised the recent decision by the Centre of allowing donations to political parties to be made through old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
She gave a statement on this today afternoon.
She said, “It is most unfortunate how there are confusing and misleading statements coming from senior Government officials”.
She further said, “Even the timing of these statements show that there may be an ulterior motive”. The way she has stood by the common people all through since the decision on demonetisation was announced became apparent once again. She made it clear that “they need to clarify that demonetisation means it is demonetisation for all”, which meant the “same rules should apply for everyone”.
She said that, when it came to the rules related to the policy of demonetisation, there should be no distinction between common people and political parties: “If Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 are illegal tender, then how are they trying to show that there is a division between common people and political parties?”
Mamata Banerjee made it clear that this is a highly undesirable decision, and said that there might be an ulterior motive, saying, “Is there a motive? Are they trying to give a hidden message to the cadre of one political party?”
The Chief Minister stressed that the Centre must clarify the reason behind this latest decision: “Why these confusing and misleading statements now? They must clarify’.
