Kolkata, July 7: The Information and Technology department of West Bengal government roped in N. R. Narayana Murthy, the founder and Chairman of Infosys Technologies to join the state IT expert committee as their chief mentor. Murthy, who had come to Kolkata at least twice last year, had expressed his willingness to work closely with the state government.
Incidentally, the state IT department is all set to rope in internationally acclaimed technocrat Sam Pitroda as chairman of state IT expert committees for both hardware and software. Mr. Pitroda has served as Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission (2005 to 2008) and is presently working as an advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations.
Mr. Pitroda will be working with the Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee as he was previously given the responsibility to draft a ‘blueprint’ for a facelift of Kolkata after the Trinamool Congress assumed power in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 2010.
According to a survet conducted by the state IT department, IT sector maintained a growth of around 8% during 2010-11.
