‘Pathasathi’ to give respite to tired travelers
The Bengal Government is setting up motels beside highways all over the state for the convenience of travellers. They have been named ‘Pathasathi’ or ‘Companions of the Road’, and the name has been given by none other than Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
This is the latest addition to the list of names which Mamata Banerjee has contributed to various aspects of the State Government, be it schemes or buildings. From Kanyashree to Sabuj Sathi to Nabanna to Uttarkanya and many others, no Chief Minister of the State has been so creative before.
The Pathasathis would have facilities for meals and refreshment as well as restrooms. The first one was recently inaugurated in Malda district. It has five air-conditioned rooms, with 17 staff to look after the place and serve travellers. It has been built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores.
Such motels would soon dot the highways of Bengal, bringing welcome relief to long-distance travellers.

সড়কের ধারে তৈরী হচ্ছে পান্থশালা
সম্প্রতি জাতীয় সড়কের ধারে পান্থশালার ব্যবস্থা করছে রাজ্য সরকার। নাম দেওয়া হচ্ছে ‘পথসাথী’। ছোট্ট দুটি শব্দ জুড়ে নামকরণ করেছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের। আর তাঁর সেই ভাবনাকে বাস্তবায়িত করে দারুণ সাফল্য পেয়েছে রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তর। বিভিন্ন জেলায় সড়কপথের ধারে গড়ে উঠছে এরকমই ‘মোটেল’— পথসাথী।
মালদা জেলায় প্রথম চালু হয়েছে এই পান্থশালা। ইতিমধ্যে কার্শিয়াঙে চালু হয়েছে। আশা করা হচ্ছে, দক্ষিণ থেকে উত্তরবঙ্গের দীর্ঘ যাত্রাপথে এ ধরনের ‘মোটেল’ বেশ জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠবে খুব শীঘ্র । সেখানে মধ্যাহ্নভোজ কিংবা নৈশ আহারের পাশাপাশি বিশ্রামের জন্য আরামদায়ক শয্যার আয়োজনও রয়েছে। খরচও কম।
’মালদার নারায়ণপুরে নীল–সাদা ওই ‘পথসাথী’ পান্থশালায় ৫টি এসি ঘর রয়েছে। কাজ করছেন জেলার অনগ্রসর শ্রেণীর মহিলারাই। তাঁরাই দেখভালের দায়িত্বে রয়েছেন অতিথিশালার। এই মুহূর্তে ১৭ জন কাজ করছেন। আড়াই কোটি টাকা খরচ করে নতুন এই পান্থশালাটি তৈরি হয়েছে।
