I’ve reminded the Union government time and again about Ghatal Master Plan: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today went from Jhargram to Ghatal by helicopter to get an overview of the flood-affected areas and then distribute relief to those affected.

She also visited the spiritual retreat of Anukul Thakur, where she met the priests of the temple and distributed relief to the group of people who had gethered there.

She then addressed the press, standing in the water that had flooded the place.

Highlights of her press interaction:

Despite requesting the Union government multiple times, it has not approved the Ghatal Master Plan. As a result, the widespread floods are not being controlled. I will again urge the government to approve the project. I will sent a delegation to the Union Irrigation Minister.

The flooding is being allowed to happen. Check dams worth Rs 500 crore have been built, but work is not being done in a planned way. The administration has to work better. More camps need to be set up.

The situation in Ghatal is dangerous. I saw everything, and taken pictures as well. I will compile a report after returning to Kolkata.
