Kolkata, July 8: In another step towards restoration of normalcy in Junglemahal, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said the first batch of 46 `political prisoners` would be released soon.

Ms. Banerjee said security forces would be withdrawn if peace is maintained in Junglemahal, adding that she will back it up with a special rehabilitation package for the extremists if they surrender with arms. A team of human rights activists are to initiate the process of talks with the Maoists.

`The government will offer special financial package to those who will surrender arms and also ensure their social rehabilitation. We want to bring back peace and normalcy in Jangalmahal. We also want the people of Jangalmahal to enjoy democratic right and freedom and towards this end, we want to work jointly with the local people and several organisations who are working there,` Ms. Banerjee said.

The Chief Minister also said that her government will inquire into all the cases in which poor people were implicated falsely with criminal charges.

`We will soon visit Jangalmahal to spur development activities. There is no adequate food, drinking water and other civic amenities in Jangalmahal and our government is determined to ensure such facilities for the people of Jangalmahal,` the Chief Minister informed.
