Blue Whale Challenge – Kolkata Police and Bengal CID take to social media to sensitise people
With the widening of digital reach to the population, come the perils of ensuring cyber security and its continuous incorporation in the law and order framework. In this light, the Kolkata Police and the West Bengal CID have done commendable work with regard to prevention and awareness creation on the Blue Whale Challenge.
The Blue Whale Challenge is an online (social media and application based) game intended to end in the suicide of the participant, including tasks leading up to their eventual death and all of it incited and organised by a number of hosts conducting it. The game has led to reported cases of bullying and harassment and suicide abatement that has become a serious concern for law and order all over the world.
The reason the Kolkata Police’s management is commendable most because it tackles the issue not only by enforcing the law but also by acknowledging that both mental health and suicide are socio-cultural issues that require sensitisation and awareness creation to be dealt with.
The Police have issued awareness creation videos and memorandums for parents of teenagers (who are known to fall prey to this game the most) and are trying to combat the menace of this internet game. This initiative has helped in creating a more conducive environment for victims or their near ones to approach the police to report cases of cyber-bullying or attempt of suicide.
It is commendable how the Kolkata Police has identified the need to use the digital sphere to combat this problem while taking a more systemic approach to a sensitive issue of law and order. While speedy investigation of existing incidents is one part of the job, the police’s forward looking initiatives to stop this matter from escalating.
‘নীল তিমি’-র বিরুদ্ধে সচেতনতা প্রচারে কলকাতা পুলিশ ও গোয়েন্দা শাখা
ইন্টারনেটে ‘নীল তিমি’ গেমের সর্বনাশা নেশা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে গোটা বিশ্বজুড়ে, যার শিকার হয়েছে অনেক তরুণ-তরুণী। এই মারণ গেম থাবা বসিয়েছে বাংলাতেও।
এই আত্মঘাতী খেলার বিরুদ্ধে সচেতনতা গড়ে তুলতে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় প্রচার করে কলকাতা পুলিশ। এবার এই নিয়ে ফেসবুকে সকলকে সতর্ক করল রাজ্য পুলিশের গোয়েন্দা শাখা। সি আই ডি তাদের ফেসবুক পেজে একটি ভিডিও পোস্ট করে। ভিডিওতে গেমের বিভিন্ন ধাপ, এই গেমে আসক্তদের চেনার উপায় ও প্রতিকারের নির্দেশাবলী দেওয়া আছে।
গেমটি শুরু হয় খুব সহজ একটি চ্যালেঞ্জ দিয়ে এবং শেষ পর্যায়ে এসে সরাসরি আত্মহত্মার চ্যালেঞ্জ ছুঁড়ে দেওয়া হয়।
সি আই ডির পরামর্শ অস্বাভাবিক আচরণ, গভীর রাতে ছাদে ঘুরে বেড়ানো, সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় অত্যধিক মনোনিবেশ, বিষণ্ণতা, চুপ করে থাকা , শরীরে ক্ষতের দাগ দেখলে অভিভাবকদের সতর্ক হতে হবে।
যুব সমাজকে কুপথে যাওয়া থেকে রুখতে তাদের অভিভাবকদের জন্য এই নির্দেশিকা জারি করা হয়েছে।
