Birla Planetarium must be included in the tourism map: Mamata Banerjee
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the renovated MP Birla Planetarium in Kolkata. The programme took place at the Planetarium Hall. The Mayor of Kolkata, Sovan Chatterjee, was also present on the occasion along with representatives of the MP Birla Group.
After 52 years of successful operation, the planetarium management went in for renovation and upgrade of the projection system with state-of-the-art equipment. The Chief Minister termed the institution as “unique” and said it was “fabulous and a matter of pride for us”.
The Chief Minister said: “After Victoria Memorial, this is among the most popular attractions in the city. As a student, I was very fond of this place. This place is important for students where they can gain a lot of knowledge”.
“Mr Madhav Prasad Birla was a visionary. You need a vision and a mission for a project like this. Our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated this”, she added.
She urged schools to send their students to the planetarium for gaining knowledge in astronomy.
বিড়লা তারামণ্ডল পর্যটন মানচিত্রে আসা উচিত: মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়
আজ নতুন রূপে তৈরী হওয়া বিড়লা তারামণ্ডলের উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলকাতার মহানাগরিক শোভন চট্টোপাধ্যায় এবং বিড়লা গ্রুপের প্রতিনিধিরা।
অনুষ্ঠানে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন বিড়লা তারামণ্ডল আমাদের জন্য গর্বের বিষয়। এটা একটা ইউনিক আকর্ষণ।
তিনি আরও বলেন, “ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের পর এটি একটি জনপ্রিয় আকর্ষণ। স্কুলে পড়াকালীন এটা আমার খুব পছন্দের জায়গা ছিল। ছাত্রছাত্রীদের knowledge বাড়ানোর জন্য এটি একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জায়গা”।
তিনি আরও বলেন, “মাধব প্রসাদ বিড়লা দূরদর্শী মানুষ ছিলেন। কোন একটি project এর জন্য ভিশন ও মিশন প্রয়োজন। জওহরলাল নেহেরু (আমাদের প্রথম প্রধানমন্ত্রী) এর উদ্বোধন করেছিলেন”।
তিনি স্কুলগুলিকে আবেদন করেন ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিড়লা তারামণ্ডল পরিদর্শনে নিয়ে আসার জন্য।
