Bengal Govt-led efforts result in quadrupling of the number of handloom artisans
The handloom industry in Bengal has improved immensely over the last six years, so much so that the number of handloom artisans has increased by almost four times from the 6.65 lakh in 2011.
The special initiatives by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to rejuvenate the handloom industry, and the MSME sector in general, have no doubt borne fruits.
The Trinamool Congress Government now regularly organises handloom and handicraft fairs all over Bengal, which provide a platform to artisans to sell their products. These fairs are extremely popular too. Thus they provide a connect between the buyer and seller, and help people to better appreciate the sari-weaving heritage of Bengal.
On August 12, the fair ‘Banglar Tant-er Haat – 2017’ was inaugurated at the Milan Mela grounds. It will continue for 24 days, that is, till September 4. The fair is already drawing appreciative crowds from across the city and its suburbs.
Besides individual artisans from different districts, the fair has also given space this year to NGOs involved with handloom and handloom organisations.

বাংলায় তাঁত শিল্পীদের সংখ্যা বেড়েছে চার গুন
বাংলার তাঁত শিল্পকে সারা দেশে ছড়িয়ে দিতে উদ্যোগ নিল মা-মাটি-মানুষের সরকার। বাংলার প্রাচীনতম ঐতিহ্য তাঁত শিল্প। তাই এই শাড়ি যাতে সবাই পেতে পারেন সেইজন্য তাঁতের হাট বসবে নদিয়া, পূর্বস্থলী, ধাত্রীগ্রাম ও উদয়নারায়ণপুর এলাকায়।
এই নয়া উদ্যোগের ফলে যেমন কর্মসংস্থান বাড়বে, তেমনই আয়ের মুখ দেখবে তাঁত শিল্পীরা। শুধু তাঁতের হাট নয়, সেই তাঁতের উৎপাদিত পণ্য যাতে গন্তব্যে পৌঁছতে পারে সেই ব্যবস্থাও করা হয়েছে সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে।
২০১০ সালে তাঁত শিল্পীদের সংখ্যা ছিল ৬ লক্ষ ৬৫ হাজার। সেখানে বর্তমান সরকারের উদ্যোগে তাঁত শিল্পকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য একাধিক প্রকল্প ও উন্নতিসাধনের জন্য সেই সংখ্যা বেড়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে প্রায় চার গুন।
প্রতি বছরের মত এবছরও সরকারের তরফ থেকে আয়োজন করা হয়েছে ‘বাংলার তাঁতের হাট – ২০১৭’। গত শনিবার এই হাটের উদ্বোধন করা হয়েছে মিলন মেলায়।
