Bengal Agriculture Dept to distribute 11,340 metric tonnes of certified paddy seeds
The Agriculture Department of the Bengal Government is going to distribute 11,340 metric tonnes of certified paddy seeds for distribution among farmers affected by an emergency situation.
This would be useful especially now that large areas in south Bengal have become flooded due to the release of water by the Maithon and Panchet dams of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
At the same time, paddy saplings have been kept at the ready on one acre each of 293 farms in the state. This can also be used in case of an emergency.
As of now, the State Government has decided to provide compensation worth Rs 205 crore to farmers who have incurred heavy losses due to unpredictable rain and hail storms before the monsoon set in this year.
It may be mentioned that the State Government had given Rs 3,500 crore compensation to farmers after their crops were damaged due to floods during 2015-16.

DVC মাইথন ও পাঞ্চেত বাঁধের জল ছাড়ায় বাংলায় আজ বন্যা পরিস্থিতি। এতে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে রাজ্যের চাষিরা। এই সময় রাজ্য সরকারের এই পদক্ষেপ খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
সরকারি সূত্রে এখনও পর্যন্ত জানা গিয়েছে, কৃষি ক্ষেত্রে ক্ষয়ক্ষতির পরিমাণ যথেষ্ট হয়েছে। প্রভাব পড়েছে ধান, পাট এবং সবজি চাষের ওপরে। যেমন, তিন লক্ষ হেক্টরের বেশি জমিতে ধানের বীজতলা তৈরি করা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু, প্রায় ৬০ হাজার হেক্টর জমি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। ধান রোয়া হয়েছিল প্রায় ১১ লক্ষ হেক্টর জমিতে। সাম্প্রতিক বন্যা পরিস্থিতিতে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে আনুমানিক ১ লক্ষ ৮০ হাজার হেক্টর জমি। প্রায় আড়াই লক্ষ হেক্টর জমিতে পাট চাষ করা হয়েছিল। ক্ষতির আওতায় হয়েছে দু’হাজার হেক্টরের বেশি জমি। সবজি চাষ হয়েছিল রাজ্যের ১ লক্ষ হেক্টরের বেশি জমিতে, যার মধ্যে জলমগ্ন হয়ে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত জমির পরিমাণ প্রায় ৩০ হাজার হেক্টর।
কৃষি দপ্তর সূত্রের খবর, আপতকালীন পরিস্থিতির কথা মাথায় রেখে ধানের বীজ মজুত করা ছিল। তার থেকে প্রায় ১১,৩৪০ মেট্রিক টন বীজ নিখরচায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত কৃষকদের দেওয়া হবে।
