52 OC-based police stations in Bengal to be upgraded to IC-based ones
The Bengal Government will soon upgrade 52 sub-inspector-based police stations, technically known as officer-in-charge-based (OC-based) police stations, to inspector-in-charge-based (IC-based) police stations.
Over the last six years, the Government has vastly improved the policing system of the state, from creating more police stations and, for the first time, women police stations to creating police commissionerates for ease of administration. The police force also conducts the Sukanya self-defence course for school girls.
This upgrading of police stations from OC-based to IC-based will improve the quality of response to the different policing requirements of a police station area.
Of the 52 police stations, the South Bengal Zone will have 21, the North Bengal Zone 15, and the Western Zone will have another 15, depending on population density.
Nine of these police stations will be based in South 24 Parganas district that has recently been split into three police districts for the sake of better administration.
Some of the police stations listed for upgradation cover areas of more than 500 square kilometres (sq km). For example, Basanti in South 24 Parganas covers 651 sq km, Rajganj and Malbazar in Jalpaiguri cover 614.82 sq km and 548.86 sq km respectively, while Gazole in Malda covers 513.37 sq km.
৫২টি অফিসার ইন চার্জ থানা রূপান্তরিত হচ্ছে ইন্সপেক্টর ইন চার্জ থানা’য়
মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় পরিচালিত রাজ্য সরকার খুব শীঘ্রই ৫২টি অফিসার ইন চার্জ থানাকে রূপান্তরিত করতে চলেছে ইন্সপেক্টর ইন চার্জ থানা’য়। ইন্সপেক্টর জেনারেল অফ পুলিশ স্বরাষ্ট্র ও পাহাড় বিষয়ক দপ্তরকে এই প্রস্তাব দেন।
নবান্নে এক পুলিশ আধিকারিক বলেন, এর মাধ্যমে পরিষেবার মানের অনেক উন্নতি হবে। এই থানা গুলোর ন’টি দক্ষিণ ২৪পরগণায় হবে, যে জেলাকে ভালো প্রশাসনের জন্য তিনটি পুলিশ জেলায় ভাগ করা হয়েছে।
দক্ষিণ বঙ্গে দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা, উত্তর ২৪ পরগনা, মুর্শিদাবাদ, হাওড়া (গ্রামীণ) ও নদীয়া জেলায় ২১টি পুলিশ স্টেশন আছে। উত্তর বঙ্গে জলপাইগুড়ি, উত্তর দিনাজপুর, দক্ষিণ দিনাজপুর, মালদা জেলায় হচ্ছে ১৫টি পুলিশ স্টেশন। পশ্চিম ভাগে আছে পুরুলিয়া, পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর, বাঁকুড়া ও পূর্ব বর্ধমান জেলা, এখানে ১৫টি থানা রূপান্তরিত হবে।
উপরোক্ত কয়েকটি থানাকে ৫০০ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ অঞ্চল দেখাশোনা করতে হয়। দক্ষিণ ২৪পরগণার বাসন্তি থানাকে ৬৫১ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ নজর রাখতে হয়। জলপাইগুড়ির রাজগঞ্জ ও মালবাজার থানা ও মালদা’র গাজল থানাকে যথাক্রমে ৬১৪.৮২ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ, ৫৪৮.৮৬ বর্গ ও ৫১৩.৩৭ বর্গ কিঃমিঃ অঞ্চল নজর রাখতে হয়।
