3-day carnival to be held in Lataguri from April 8
A three-day carnival will be held in Lataguri in North Bengal to woo tourists. Chairman of Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) said the carnival would start on April 8. The festival is the first-of-its-kind.
The purpose of the carnival is to attract both domestic and foreign tourists. The culture of Dooars will be highlighted in this programme which includes art exhibition.
It may be mentioned that after coming to power, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited North Bengal several times to win over the confidence of the people. Tourism which was badly hit in North Bengal particularly in the hills during the Left Front regime due to movements has been rejuvenated.

পর্যটনের প্রসারে তিন দিনের কার্নিভাল অনুষ্ঠিত হবে লাটাগুড়িতে। শিলিগুড়ি-জলপাইগুড়ি উন্নয়ন পর্ষদ আয়োজিত এই কার্নিভালটি অনুষ্ঠিত হবে এপ্রিল মাসের ৮ তারিখ থেকে। এই ধরণের অনুষ্ঠান এই প্রথম ঘটতে চলেছে।
অন্যান্য রাজ্য ও বিদেশ থেকে পর্যটকদের বাংলা-মুখী করতেই এই প্রয়াস। ডুয়ার্স অঞ্চলের সংস্কৃতিকে তুলে ধরা হবে নানা অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে। থাকবে প্রদর্শনীও।
২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় প্রায়ই উত্তরবঙ্গ সফরে গেছেন। সেখানকার পর্যটনের বিকাশের জন্য নিয়েছেন একাধিক পদক্ষেপ।
