State Govt increases salary of civic volunteers to Rs 8,000

The State Government has announced that the salary of civic volunteers would be increased to Rs 8,000. This is very good news ahead of Durga Puja.
Civic volunteers at present draw Rs 5,500 per month, which will go up by another Rs 2,500 per month from October 1. The decision was approved by the State cabinet at its meeting yesterday.
There are around 1.2 lakh civic volunteers. Last year, their salary was increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,500. The government is very happy with their performance. Hence, the decision was made to increase their salary to Rs 8,000.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged civic volunteers to work with more responsibility, and has assured them that they will be given due recognition of junior home guards and necessary training to get promoted to the post of police constables.
With the decision to increase their salary, the State Government will be undertaking an additional expenditure of Rs 393.39 crore. Despite the huge loan clearance amount of Rs 40,000 crore that needs to be paid yearly to the Central Government, the Maa-Mati-Manush Government of Trinamool Congress continues to work for the good of its citizenry.
