Three new districts to come into existence on Poila Boishakh
The Bengal Government has got the approval of the Calcutta High Court for the formation of three new districts – Asansol, Kalimpong and Jhargram, informed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“We will immediately start the procedure for the creation of the three new districts. We are hopeful that the procedure will be completed and the districts will be inaugurated by April 2017,” the Chief Minister said at Nabanna.
Currently, there are 20 districts in the state. The last new district to be formed was Alipurduar in June 2014, which was created by dividing Jalpaiguri.
Asansol will be hived out of Burdwan. Similarly Kalimpong will be hived out of Darjeeling and Jhargram from West Midnapore.
The state government has also planned two separate districts of Basirhat by dividing North 24-Parganas and Sunderbans comprising parts from North 24-Parganas and South 24Parganas.
The Chief Minister also said a team of officials will start visiting the areas that will come under the jurisdiction of the three new districts of Asansol, Kalimpong and Jhargram.
“The team for Kalimpong will be head by the state chief secretary. A team lead by the state home secretary will visit Asansol. The team for Jhargram will be led by the state personnel & administrative reforms secretary, the state police director general and Kolkata police commissioner,” the Chief Minister said.

কলকাতা হাই কোর্ট অনুমোদন দেওয়াতে তিনটি নতুন জেলা তৈরির কাজ আরও গতি পেল। আদালত যে তিনটি নতুন জেলা তৈরী করার অনুমতি দিয়েছে, সেগুলি হল – আসানসোল, কালিম্পঙ ও ঝাড়গ্রাম। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী জানান আগামী পয়লা বৈশাখেই আত্মপ্রকাশ হবে নতুন তিন জেলার।
নবান্নে মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন “আমরা এখন নতুন তিনটি জেলা তৈরির কাজ আরও এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবো। আমরা আশা করছি সমস্ত প্রয়োজনীয় কাজ ২০১৭ সালের এপ্রিল মাসের আগেই শেষ হয়ে যাবে।”
এই মুহূর্তে এই রাজ্যে ২০টি জেলা রয়েছে। সর্বশেষ জলপাইগুড়ি জেলা ভেঙে অলিপুরদুয়ার জেলা তৈরী হয় ২০১৪ সালের জুন মাসে।
বর্ধমান জেলা ভেঙে তৈরী হবে নতুন জেলা আসানসোল। দার্জিলিং জেলা ভেঙে তৈরী হবে কালিম্পঙ এবং পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলা ভেঙে তৈরী হবে ঝাড়গ্রাম।
রাজ্য সরকারের আরও পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে সুন্দরবন ও বসিরহাটকেও জেলা ঘোষণা করার।
মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী আরও জানান সংশ্লিষ্ট আধিকারিকরা এখন থেকে নতুন জেলা তৈরীর কাজ দেখতে পরিদর্শনে যাবেন।
মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “রাজ্যের মুখ্সচিবের নেতৃত্বে একটি দল যাবে কালিম্পঙে, রাজ্যের স্বরাষ্ট্র সচিবের নেতৃত্বে একটি দল যাবে আসানসোলে। ঝাড়গ্রামের দলটিকে নেতৃত্ব দেবে রাজ্য প্রশাসনিক সচিব, রাজ্য পুলিশ ডিরেক্টর ও কলকাতা পুলিশের কমিশানার।”
