West Bengal will provide marketing outlet for SHG: CM

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said the government would create marketing outlets for self-help groups (SHGs).
Addressing an assemblage of SHGs, she said: “You are doing good work, grants are given as well as loans, but there is no marketing outlet for your products.”
The groups were participating in a disbursement camp for SHGs under the Bangla Swanirbhar Karmasansthan Prakalpa related to all the 19 districts of the State. The scheme has an allocation of Rs. 150 crore.
She said the government would create marketing centres at State, district, sub-division and block levels to address the problem.
The district and sub-division level marketing centres would come up within one year and after that such centres would be set up in all the 400 blocks, she said.
“We will give some land near Kolkata for setting up the State-level marketing centre. We shall see if the land can be given at Rajarhat,” Ms. Banerjee said
She said an expert committee would be set up to examine whether there was export potential for the items produced by the SHGs.
