WB CM to honour outstanding state government employees

In order to instill a sense of responsibility and improve the work culture in the administration, Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee has decided to reward state government employees, from principal secretaries to peons, for their services.

Each year 50 government employees will be awarded. The award will consist of a scroll and cash of around Rs 25,000 and it will presented by the Chief Minister at a function to be held at Town Hall. Senior officials of the state government said a district-level screening committee headed by divisional commissioner of that area will be formed. The committee will select names of awardees and send it to the state-level screening committee headed by chief secretary. The awards will be given based on the government officer`s punctuality, initiative taken during an emergency, integrity, innovative ideas and exceptional contributions in the administrative field.

Both the screening committees will prepare a list of names and the list will be sent to the Chief Minister for her final approval.

All appointments in government offices are broadly classified into four categories: West Bengal State Services Class 1, West Bengal State Services Class II, West Bengal State Services Class III, and West Bengal State Services Class IV.
