Buoyed by the surge of development in West Bengal, British Telecom to invest in the state
With the recent surge in business as well as the IT sectors in the state, British Telecom is setting up a technology centre at Rajarhat`s DLF- II infotech park. The UK-based communications services company is expected to use about 60,000 square feet of leased space and can generate employment for 600-1,000 people. The company specializes in providing fixed-line, broadband and networked IT services.
“British Telecom has agreed to come to Kolkata. There is hope that all big infotech giants will start operations here,” Bengal IT minister Partha Chatterjee today said at the inauguration of the Microsec IT Tower at New Town.
Emphasizing on the prospects of West Bengal as an ideal IT destination, Mr. Chatterjee said the state was strengthening its infrastructure through 13 technology parks and two electronics manufacturing clusters at Naihati and Falta. “In our new ICT policy there are various provisions – both fiscal and non-fiscal – that will benefit companies. These IT hubs and clusters will have a multiplier effect,” he said.
Meanwhile, the necessary procedures to set up an Indian Institute of Information Technology at Kalyani have been undertaken and work can commence soon.
