State Health Department to start health camps for senior citizens at Panchayat level
The State Health Department has taken a unique decision to organize monthly health camps for senior citizens through the mediation of the gram panchayats. The first such camp will be organised at Mohoboni in Keshpur, West Midnapore district. Such camps will soon be extended to all the blocks across the state.
The health camp will not only make regular monthly check ups for the elderly people, but also provide medicines free of cost. Such camps will also be held at the local health centres, primary health centres, and rural hospitals.
West Midnapore district has been chosen for the project as there are around 4.8 lakh senior citizens in the district. Around 8% of the population in the district is aged above 60. There are 29 blocks in the district of which 11 are in Jangalmahal area.
Health officials said that campaigns are being organised to let people know about this scheme. Locals will be informed beforehand and banners will be put up at the venues. If required, the health workers will visit senior citizens at their homes.
Besides basic checkup, there will be provision of diagnostic tests at these health camps. The government has already issued a guideline for the programme to all the health officials in West Midnapore district.

বয়স্কদের চিকিৎসায় প্রতি পঞ্চায়েতে শিবির
এ বার বয়স্কদের চিকিৎসায় প্রতি পঞ্চায়েত এলাকায় মাসে অন্তত একটি করে স্বাস্থ্য শিবির করতে তৎপর হল স্বাস্থ্য দফতর। ইতিমধ্যে রাজ্য থেকে এই নির্দেশ এসে পৌঁছেছে পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলায়। কেশপুরের মোহবনি থেকে আনুষ্ঠানিক ভাবে বয়স্কদের স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা শিবির শুরু হয়েছে। এ দিন স্থানীয় প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্রে এই শিবিরে উপস্থিত ছিলেন জেলার মুখ্য স্বাস্থ্য আধিকারিক, উপ– মুখ্য স্বাস্থ্য আধিকারিক প্রমুখ। আশপাশের এলাকার বয়স্করা শিবিরে আসেন। ক্রমে বিভিন্ন ব্লকে এই শিবির হবে।
প্রবীণেরা যাতে সুস্থ ভাবে জীবন যাপন করতে পারেন, সেটাই এই কর্মসূচির মূল উদ্দেশ্য। পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের মুখ্য স্বাস্থ্য আধিকারিক বলেন, “স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা শিবিরে বিনামূল্যে ওষুধও দেওয়া হবে। এর ফলে প্রচুর বয়স্ক মানুষ উপকৃত হবেন।“
শিবির হবে উপস্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্র, প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্র, ব্লক প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্র এবং গ্রামীণ হাসপাতালগুলোতে। আশপাশের কয়েকটি গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েত এলাকার বয়স্ক মানুষদের নিয়েই এক–একটি শিবিরের আয়োজন করা হবে। শিবিরে উপস্থিত চিকিৎসকেরা যদি মনে করেন, চিকিৎসার জন্য কাউকে হাসপাতালে স্থানান্তর করা প্রয়োজন, তা–ও করতে পারেন।
পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের জনসংখ্যা ৬০ লক্ষের কাছাকাছি। এর মধ্যে প্রায় ৮ শতাংশ বয়স্ক। বয়স ৬০–এর বেশি। অর্থাৎ, জেলায় বয়স্ক মানুষের সংখ্যা ৪ লক্ষ ৮০ হাজারের কাছাকাছি। ওই কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে এঁদের সকলের চিকিৎসা সুনিশ্চিত করার ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছে।
কী ভাবে শিবিরের আয়োজন করতে হবে, সেই সম্পর্কিত এক নির্দেশিকা সোমবারই জেলার সব বিএমওএইচদের কাছে পাঠিয়েছেন পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের মুখ্য স্বাস্থ্য আধিকারিক। চার পাতার ওই নির্দেশিকায় জানানো হয়েছে, ঠিক কী ভাবে এই কর্মসূচি এগোবে। কেশপুরে আনুষ্ঠানিক ভাবে এই শিবির শুরু হবে। অন্য ব্লকেও ১০ ফেব্রুয়ারির মধ্যে কর্মসূচি শুরু করার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
