CTC leases surplus land in tram depots, earning more than double the price of land
The State Transport department has earned a total of Rs 27.73 crore after selling around 50 kottah surplus land of the Calcutta Tramways Company, state Transport Minister Madan Mitra said.
The land was sold to Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC), the highest among the bidders, Mr Mitra said. Talking to reporters at Paribahan Bhavan this afternoon Mr Mitra said the CESC will install high power transformers to generate more power. The power cuts will come down after the transformers are installed, he said. Indian Oil Corporation, Hungerford Consultant Pvt Ltd and a few other private constructors also participated in the bid.
Surplus land of Shyambazar, Belgachia and Tollygunge depots could not be sold as only one or two bidders participated in the tendering process to purchase the land of the three depots – at least three were required.The transport department will float tender for selling land of the three depots, Mr Mitra said. On 31 October 2013, the state transport department decided to sell the land to rejuvenate state run transport corporations.

কলকাতায় ট্রাম কোম্পানির (সিটিসি) বিভিন্ন ডিপোর উদ্বৃত্ত জমি বেসরকারি সংস্থাকে দীর্ঘমেয়াদি লিজ দিয়ে আয় বাড়ানোর পরিকল্পনা করেছিল রাজ্য সরকার। সেই পথে হেঁটে প্রথম দফায় ২৭ কোটি টাকা নিজেদের কোষাগারে তুলল পরিবহণ দফতর। ওই টাকায় কর্মীদের স্বেচ্ছাবসরের পাশাপাশি সংস্থাকে চাঙ্গা করার প্রক্রিয়াও শুরু হবে বলে জানান পরিবহণকর্তারা।
গত নভেম্বরে টালিগঞ্জ, বেলগাছিয়া, শ্যামবাজার, কালীঘাট, খিদিরপুর ও গ্যালিফ স্ট্রিট – সিটিসি এই ছটি ডিপোর মোট ৩৭৩ কাঠা উদ্বৃত্ত জমি লিজে দেওয়ার আগ্রহপত্র (এক্সপ্রেশন অব ইন্টারেস্ট) চেয়ে সংবাদপত্রে বিজ্ঞাপন দিয়েছিল পরিবহণ দফতর। প্রথম তিনটির ক্ষেত্রে সে ভাবে সাড়া না মিললেও শেষের তিনটি ডিপোর জমি চেয়ে আবেদন জানায় চারটি সংস্থা। তাদের মধ্যে সিইএসসি-ই সর্বোচ্চ দাম দিয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন পরিবহণমন্ত্রী মদন মিত্র। শনিবার তিনি বলেন, “তিনটি ডিপোর প্রায় ৫০ কাঠা জমির জন্য সিইএসসি দেবে ২৭ কোটিরও বেশি টাকা। তাই তাদের হাতেই ওই তিনটি ডিপোর জমি তুলে দেওয়া হচ্ছে।”
