Shanta Chhetri speaks on the Women’s Reservation Bill

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Hon Sir, I would like to draw the kind attention of this August House regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Sir, I am happy to inform you that 35 per cent (12 out of 34) of Trinamool MPs of Lok Sabha are women. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool gave 35 per cent of Lok Sabha tickets to ladies. Sir, I would like to say that in this August House, the BJP shouldn’t talk about women empowerment since they have been given only nine per cent seats to women.
Sir I am also happy to inform you that 50 per cent of local body seats in Bengal are also reserved for women. Bengal and Trinamool have already taken care of women’s reservations. So Sir, I would say that what Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow.
Sir my party Trinamool Congress is the only party in India, which in all practical terms, has already implemented women’s reservation, even before the Bill has been passed. It has been possible due to the only elected woman Chief Minister in India, that is Mamata Banerjee.
Thank you, Sir.
