Sudip Bandyopadhyay counters false claims about dengue deaths in Kolkata

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, just now it was said (in the House) that due to dengue fever fifty thousand have died. But Sir, in Kolkata city, the death toll has been twenty three as per the Chief Minister’s report. Sir, it is the only state in India where Chief Minister holds the portfolio of Health Minister. So, naturally the health department gets a major priority.

Sir, I have been appointed the Chairman of National Urban Health Mission by the Government of India, for monitoring this situation in Kolkata. A letter has been issued by the Hon’ble Speaker’s Office.

So Sir, I want to reiterate that the House should not be allowed to be confused. Health is a State subject. We are all concerned with the deaths of children. We all should see that dengue is eradicated at an early possible time.
