Mala Roy speaks on the funds due from Centre for parateachers

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, I would like to draw the attention of the House regarding the issue of parateachers teaching in primary and upper-primary schools and special educators under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan in West Bengal. It is unfortunate that in spite of the fact that the Government of West Bengal is taking a lot of positive steps leading to salary hike, hike in superannuation or retirement age to 60, hike in gratuity etc, the Opposition parties in our State are making an issue of it only to achieve narrow political gains.

The State Government is sympathetic to their needs and they have been repeatedly invited for discussion and to resume their duties. It is unfortunate that the Central Government is not releasing their share of dues under the scheme. On the contrary the parateachers are being provoked by certain leaders of the state spreading wrong information resulting in frequent agitation for which the school students are getting affected.
I would like to know when the Central Government will release funds under the scheme so that the State Government can take appropriate measures to bring back normalcy.
